Question about Saws

1 Answer

Reciprocating saw stops reciprocating upon pressure.

Once you apply any pressure to the blade, the blade stops moving. Is this an easy fix or are the gears stripped? Only worth it as a quick fix.

Thanks,
Pat

The gears are stripped, it cannot be easily fixed as the parts are not easy to get and tool must be heavily disassembled to get to them

Reciprocating

That sounds dangerous! Does it actually cut after you do that? It sounds like it has bad gears and wouldn't cut if you put pressure to the blade. On a dw303 it's likely not worth repair if that's the case.

I have a dewalt model dw008 reciprocating saw.while removing a broken blade a small steel ball fell out. #52 in their parts manual.where does it go?

Here is a parts diagram. Item 52 is the ball. It fits behind item 49. Item 49 has a groove machined into it so that when it is moved it allows the ball to move away from the blade far enough to insert the blade. Once the lever is released the ball moves back and locks the blade into place.

How do i intall a blade on a DW303 Reciprocating saw?

To install blade into saw:
1. Loosen set screw.
2. Insert blade shank from the front between the reciprocating shaft and the blade clamp.
Locate hole in blade over pin on reciprocating shaft.
3. Tighten set screw. If the blade should break off and the shank does not come out of the clamp,
be sure the set screw is loose and eject the shank with a nail or pointed object.

Have DeWalt Model 303 Type 1 Blade is stuck can not remove, removed Scew part # 99164-06. Blade is still stuck, blade will move side to side, back and forth but will not slide out. Any ideas

It sounds like the set-screw may have caused a burr on the blade, and that's preventing you from removing it. You might use a tool like vice-grips, and apply more force. I don't think you can hurt anything by doing that if the blade is in the fully-extended position.
Good luck,

I bought a Dewalt DW310 reciprocating saw and there seems to be no way to install a blade. The instructions show a wheel to turn to unlock the blade chuck but the wheel is up inside the saw body where you...

The blade clamp collar is a spring loaded knob of sorts that holds the blade in place. If you are not able to pull the blade shaft out of the saw to get at it, plug the saw in and hit the on/off trigger a few times to get the shaft and knob out of the body of the saw. Once you can get at the knob it should be easy to turn it and insert a new blade. Let me know if you have problems.

Blade stuck in reciprocating saw

The pin is probably stuck in the blade. This happens from time to time after they get dirty. Take some WD-40 or some other type of penetrating oil and spray a little in the blade holder while working the release lever. It will probably free right up.
