SOURCE: flash won't fire on p-ttl mode

The AF360 can be in TTL mode until it is mounted on a P-TTL compatible camera and turned on, then it senses the camera and goes to P-TTL. However, sometimes in the past when I got TTL and it should have been PTTL it meant that either the batteries were not connected properly (I know, sounds strange, but check the battery compartment cover to make sure it is seated properly and make sure that the batteries are all in proper position), or that the AF360's contact pins were not all making proper contact with the shoe or extension. Beyond that it could be a faulty flash. You have swapped lenses and cameras with the same result, how about swapping flash? Unfortunately that may be your problem.

SOURCE: reverting to ttl - master flash not firing

Hi Kate,

What camera that you are having problem with those flashes?
Will switching the two have the same problems.
Make sure it is fully pushed forward into hotshoe & locked:-)

Try shooting second current, this will save you the repair costs.

Your exposure compensation was set to zero, but was your flash compensation set at zero?

Caroline, you should try to set the camera on "M" and the flash in 2nd curtain flash sync.

Or set flash in ATG wireless IR ETTL Slave modes and pop-up the flash on Canon EOS-70D.

Canon 580exii speedlight, I want to only use the slaves, but they won't fire when I turn off the master

You didn't say what camera model you are using.
If you have 7D/60D/T4i you can have a total of 3 wireless ir flashes.

580EX II must be set at Master, say Group A & Channel 1
Two 270EX II must be set at Slave, say Group A & Channel 1
or
One 270EX II set at Group A & Channel 1
Second 270EX II set Group A & Channel 2

Then go into camera menu & turn off Master flash & turn settings for those two flashes.

My canon 580 EX II stops firing even with new batteries

You must disable the 580EX II form using the 4AA.

4AA must be needed when using hv power pack.

Just let the 4AA use & display the LCD panel.

I have been using my Canon 580ex ii with my Canon 5d mark ii. It will not fire at all now. I also tried my old 420 ex speedlite and it will not fire either. But, they both work on my Canon 40d.

You can actually set the external flash not to fire in the menu settings of your camera. Check there or try mounting the flash on your camera, turn both on and reset your camera to factory default settings through your camera menu settings.

The 580EX is firing but images comes out completely dark it just started happening in a session around 2 hours ago........i put it on another camera the 40d still the same problem what can this be?

When the flash mode TTL. Then this situation can occur if the proximity is working with other studio flash light traps. Your work makes flash another flash while TTL metering. And when is your main flash another flash did not have time to recharge.

580EX speedlite not firing

Does the pilot lamp light up? If so can you fire it manually by pressing on it? If the batteries are low it may simply just be taking a while to charge, the camera will not wait for it to be ready to fire and it may seem to be not working. If your flash can be fired manually however, there may be a problem with the cameras shutter or the hotshoe. You can do a basic check by pressing the star button at the rear of the camera, you should get a pre-flash. If not, there is a problem with the cameras hotshoe which you will need addressed by a service centre. If you get a preflash you can next check the cameras shutter by setting the second curtain to sync with the flash. This can be done via the cameras "Custom Function" menu, c-Fn 15. Set the camera to TV mode and chose a 1 second exposure. Take a shot with the flash attached, if the shutter is working correctly, the flash should fire a pre-flash and then a main flash. If it doesnt, the switch inside the shutter is broken and the shutter needs to be replaced. This is a pretty labour intensive repair and you may consider an upgrade as more economical.
