Question about HP Compaq 6910p Notebook PC PC Notebook

1 Answer

Hi everyone, I have HP Compaq6910 notebook. The problem is that when it start windows it was too slow. It will take almost 3 minutes to display the Windows loading bar and another 3 minutes to log in to Windows. I checked the resources usage and the result is that the resource usage by CPU wen to 100% all the time. My system came with 2GB of RAM. I also did HDD test in the BIOS and found the result that "error to read HDD". Does the actual cost for my slowing system came from Memory fault or the HDD? Hope someone can help me. Thank you.

    Thank you for the reply,

I think that would be the case if I manage to enter windows properly. Unfortunately,I already format it, during the format session, it took me almost 4 hours to be completed which I thought was not reasonable. From my view, the problem may occur from the hardware itself but not really sure which one would be the cause.

Sounds like you have to many startup programs. Check msconfighttp://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary

Don't download or scan anything they ask but it tells what each processor does so you can manually check which ones you obviously don't need and then uncheck them and choose selective startup.

Your boot time will be much faster. Obviously you want all the neccessary startup files to boot so only uncheck the ones you know you don't need at startup.

I think thats why your screen takes so long to boot.

If your not worried about your data at all and have driver disc so you can install those files. Especially so you can get back online. (network driver for xp ect). You could do a clean install Kind of risky for xp. Much simpler with vista or 7.

If you had a lot of GB of data it would have taken a long time to get xp installed.

You need to check what is starting up with windows. Everything that is set to start with windows will slow down the boot time. Msconfig via the run command will allow you to deselect non essential services to speed up boot times.

Hi, can you pls help me with the procedure to lock and unlock the keyboard of mini HP110 notebook?

Improve the Fixya experience for everyone by voting.

Holding down shift key for more than 8 seconds will lock the keyboard and it will stop responding. But if you keep pressing keys for few seconds you would be able to type in but it will be very slow. Plus, it will produce a nasty sound.

To get around this, go to start and then settings, then control panel and then finally accessibility options. Make sure all the 3 boxes are unchecked.

When one purchases a new machine, the very first thing that the machine prompts to do is make a rescue disc. If you haven't got one, you will need to either purchase a new OS disc or check you have the licence key on the underside of your notebook and if you have, borrow a system disc to rescue your system.
Hope that helps.

Hi,
Prepare to Diagnose the Computer
Perform the following actions to prepare the computer for troubleshooting a startup problem.

1. Remove the battery and AC adapter from the notebook.
2.Remove any optical disks (CD or DVD), and disconnect any external devices or peripherals such as USB devices, printers, docking stations etc.
3.Plug the AC adapter directly into a functioning wall socket.
4.Press the Power button to turn on the computer.

NOTE:After the battery, optical media and peripherals are removed, the Notebook PC may startup normally. If this occurs see Windows starts after the battery, optical media and peripherals are removed .

Symptoms and Resolutions
When the notebook stops responding or displays an error message, let me know what symptom that most closely resembles what is seen on the Notebook PC screen.

* PC stops responding with a blinking cursor is displayed in the upper left corner of a black screen.
*Password is requested but password is forgotten or lost.
*Microsoft Windows starts, but a 'serious error' message is displayed that prompts you to send an error report to Microsoft for evaluation.
* Microsoft Windows starts , but the PC stops responding or restarts automatically
*Display is very dim during and after startup
*Microsoft Windows starts, but runs abnormally slow

Hi there
Don't bother with service pack 3, it will only slow the pc down even more, what you need is a memory upgrade so the machine can perform well, also a better hard drive would be a good idea

Screen Shut off

Hello

If your Notebook is not powering on then please perform the following steps.

= Power Drain =

1. Disconnect the AC Adapter.
2. Remove the Battery.
3. Hold the Power button down for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
4. Reconnect the AC adapter and Battery.
5. Turn on the Notebook power.

If your Notebook is powering on and you are unable to use any feature. Then I recommend you to repair Operating System of your Notebook. This will not delete any data . It just repairs the operating system files.

Here are the steps to perform Operating System Repair.

1. Ensure that the CD-ROM is connected to the Notebook.
2. Turn on the Notebook.
3. Immediately insert the Operating System CD into the CD drive.
4. Press and hold the Power button for 5 seconds to turn off the Notebook.
5. Press the Power button again to start the Notebook.
6. Press any key to boot from the CD, when prompted. The Welcome to Setup blue screen is displayed with three options.
NOTE: Please donot select "R" option directly from the three options displayed.

7. Press <ENTER> to continue. A Licensing Agreement screen is displayed.
8. Press <F8> to accept the Agreement and continue. Another blue screen Setup window is displayed.
9. Press "R" to repair the selected Windows installation.

The repair process may take several minutes to complete. Your Notebook will restart into Windows after the process is complete.

I hope this will work.

Thanks

possible that the virtual memory is fragged. try disabling the VM then do a disk error check followed by a disk defrag then re-enable VM.
