When I use the AUTO setting picture tends to be out of focus no matter how much care I take - on other settings is usually spot on. Shouldn't AUTO cancel all previous settings? J

Other settings can affect how it is set.
Go to the menus and find the setting for default factory settings or something like that. Set all to default.
Then test.

Pictures didnt develop

Hi Steph Johnson,
Numerous things could be the issue. 1, dirty lens, clean the front and back element, 2. The camera focus is not working properly not focusing on the correct spot. So, are you manual focusing or auto focusing? If it is auto then there could be an issue with that. If your are manual focusing are you sure your diopter setting is correct for your eyes, if not then it may appear correct in the viewfinder, yet be off focus.

Do you have a way to check the lens on a DSLR? If so you can try that lens on the DSLR seeing if there is an error with the lens or if it is your film camera.

My picture enlargements seem to be fuzzy on the paper no matter how carefully I try to focus. Why?

It's possible you have the setting for picture quality set too low. You want to always shoot at the maximum number of megapixels your camera is capable of. Also, most cameras also allow you to set the picture quality to a setting such as fine, extra fine, etc.

My s860 samsung will not focus the pictures are blurry how do I get it to refocus

Use the following steps one at a time and test the camera after each step. Start with a fully charged battery.

1. Make sure you do not have the focus set to "Macro", usually the graphic for Macro is a tulip symbol. Set it on Auto Focus. If that is not the problem, very carefully clean the lens.

2.Power up the camera and when the lens extends, apply a few drops of commercial lens cleaning fluid to a lens cleaning cloth or lens cleaning tissue (not a facial tissue) and gently rub the lens in a circular direction. Then with a dry lens cloth or tissue carefully dry the lens.

3. Make sure you camera's ISO setting is on Auto ISO.

4. Rest your camera to factory default by going to the Settings menu, selecting "Reset", then select "Yes" in the sub-menu.

If none of these steps work, there is damage or a defect in your camera and you must contact Samsung for repair advice.

The lens will not focus automatically but will focus manually on the kodak EOS rebel XSi

Check your settings in the camera menu. Make sure that auto focus is selected. Also set the focus for OTHER than spot focus. (Spot focus can be real touchy.)
Still no autofocus? you will need service from Canon.

Everything on the screen is blurred and fuzzy, the picture comes out the same

well most digital camera's tend to be sensitive for any movement during the auto focus and taking the picture .. depenidng form light (the more light the quicker the camera usually can respond) and eventually a stabelizer programme (shaking hand on a jog dial or a setup option. If the digital camera can use a macro mode check if it is off, otherwhise only the things near the lens will be good and the rest is blurry and fuzy , chaeck if the aparture can be set , for example if the lens is a 1:3.5 use a Apature 4 or 4.5 than image should be sharp , set the camera to auto mode, and believe me even the lightest movement can be fatal..

FOCUS PROBLEM

So... there's poor focus, and there's shutter speed.

If the light is very low, the shutter has to stay open for longer to allow enough light in to make a bright picture. Suffice to say, if you move around while the shutter is recording, it will record you moving around, and it will look blurred. That covers the concert you went to. Just use the flash. The camera will know it can use a very fast shutter speed if the flash is going to go off.

As for the person in the background thing... if they are the only blurry thing, then it's the same as above. If not, try this:
Check your camera setup menu... you should have focus options. Most toy cameras have an auto-focus that can focus on multiple points in the shot, or one point only, or even by face recognition these days! Try using a "spot focus", one focus point in the dead-centre of the shot.

On this setting, it shouldn't matter what is going on around your subject, the focus spot will be in the centre, where you are aiming it. =-]

Auto focus problems

Generally, a Nikon AF body - lens needs something of contrast to focus on (i.e., the tux of a groom) and with a white wedding dress, the autofocus tends to go 'nuts.' You could pick a spot (a pew) to focus on and then turn AF off: during the walk-down-the-asle, just shoot when the person hits that spot. In a less-than-bright church, maybe your eyes and digital are not a prime match. You could return to a film camera -- the F100 does well in lower light.
