Hi,

That is a common problem with the Whirpool duets. Small clothing articles, especially baby socks go through the drum lip to the drain pipe.

Best to buy a zip-up laundry bag and place all the small clothing items in there.

Best Regards
Ash

I have a Whirlpool Duet front loading washer with a smelly trap.

It is normal to have water in the drain lines and drain trap even when the unit is not in use. There's usually about a gallon of residual water in the lower portion of the wash tub, drain line and pump. If you are experiencing sour odors from the washer, the following link can give you some pointers on things to try to help keep the smell from coming back:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3608512-getting_rid_front_loader_mildew_odor

Read through the link provided and let me know if you still have problems. I personally own a front loader and have followed this regiment for 9 years now with no odor or mildew problems. I hope this helps you as well.

Sock in lint collector slot

Take a hanger Metal one, stick it down there and twist tell you get a good grab on the sock and pull it out. The other way is to open the back up and get in there. The machine will not work at all cause it can not exhaust

Water pours out from soap/softener drawer at top...

I'm guessing, what with this having been posted nearly a year ago, that this has been resolved, one way or another, but I thought I would post this solution for the benefit of others:

We had this same problem, where water was flowing out from underneath the detergent dispenser. The problem we had was a blockage between the dispenser and the drum, so after taking the console and door-panel off the washer, I removed that black tube from the dispenser to the drum and pulled out the matted-up sock which had somehow made its way there. Good luck!

Problem with whirlpool duet

you can access the drain pump assy by removing the 3 screws across the bottom of front panel, after that youll see the drain pump directly in front of you, youll need to unscrew t he filter cap form the "button trap"assmebly, this is what catches all the junk left in pockets, or the baby socks, so they dont make itr into the puppmp itself. be warned there will be water wanting to come out after unscrewing the cap. ALOT depending on amount of water in machine!!!!!!

WHIRLPOOL DUET FRONTLOAD WASHER

I had similar problem, the front door seal can trap small items, socks, handtowels. I didnt figure this out for some months, each load of clothes had a foul, mildew smell, Check door seal for trapped clothes, run intermittent cycles with bleach only, no clothes, be sure to leave door open when not in use to air out , this will reduce smell.

Hamish, that is the code for long drain. Make sure the drain hose is not kinked. Remove the bottom panel and and check the drain filter. It is right in front and just unscrews. Get a bucket handy to catch the excess water. After cleaning out the filter strainer check the impeller (hole to the right) to make sure nothing is jammed in there. Catriver...post back.
