Question about Kenmore 18.3 cu. ft. Top Freezer Refrigerator w/Through-the-Door Water Dispenser

1 Answer

Kenmore refrigerator. Just replaced defrost timer, 2 weeks ago. This corrected the problem of warm refrigerator compartment. Now water puddles forming on top shelf, and in the very bottom. Water is dripping from above from what looks like 2 drain holes. What do I do?

Remove the food and the ice maker from the freezer ( if equiped ) . Remove the rear freezer panel . Using a hair dryer , start in the middle , below the coils , defrosting , until you see the drain hole . Use hot water to help defrost the hole . Once water starts going thru the hole , use a small hose inserted into the hole , and blow thru , to remove any unseen debris in the drain line . Use an ALUMINUM solid wire , 14-16 guage , with the insulation completely off , and insert one end into the drain hole as far as possible without any force . Wrap the other end about 1 1/2 to 2 turns , around the black rod (defrost heater) , above the hole . When refrig goes into defrost , the heat will transfer from the heater , to the wire , keeping the hole from freezing up again .

When your refrig goes into defrost , there is possibly a cup of water each time , that defrosts off the coils . If the drain hole is not clear and clean , then the defrost water has to go somewhere , so , it goes outward . The 2 holes , is the first place closest to the clogged drain , where it can run to .

if the freezer is getting cold the problem is due to the cold air from the freezer not getting into the refrigerator. There are several things that can cause this problem. The coils in the freezer icing up and not defrosting properly is one of the things that can cause the refrigerator not to get cold enough. Another problem is the fan that blows the cold air from the freezer compartment into the refrigerator, not working. When the compressor is running open the refrigerator's door and push the switch that makes the light go out. You should hear the fan blowing the cold air from the freezer into the refrigerator, when this switch is pushed in. If the fan is working then you will need to find what is blocking the air flow. Iced up coils are a common problem. The icing problem can be due to a defective defrost timer or something defective in the defrost circuit. Click here for more information. Check for these problems and let me know what you have found.

Problem with kenmore side by side leaking

2 things could be wrong first is you compressor running if is not running you have to check the overload to see if it tripp if it did it will sound like a babys rattle just repl and compressor should kick back on if is running then is you evaporator motor running if is not then check for volatge at the wires if you get 118 then repl your motor. is the unit defrosting is there a lot of ice on the back cover it might not be so 3 thing might be failing 1 timer 2 defrost thermostat 3 heater coil call a tech to have those check out thanks

Defrost solution didn't last....

If it does not defrost after turning the timer then the problem is further into the defrost circuit. If it does defrost when you turn the timer and that is the only time it does defrost replace the timer.

Refrigerator on the fritz

The defroster is not working. Ice build up prevents cold air from the freezer chest from blowing into the lower part.

The way the defroster works is this: There is a defrost timer, probably found under the refrigerator at the front, that turns on the defroster three times per day or so. That turns on a heater nested among the freezer coils. It keeps heating until the defrost thermostat gets warm; then it quits defrosting.

I think your defrost timer doesn't turn. You can turn it with a screw driver till you hear a click. Now your ice compartment should be defrosting. With ice buildup it may need lots and lots of defrosting. You might not get cooling back into the lower part for awhile, till the ice buildup melts.

By the preceding, you should know if the defrost timer needs replacing.

If you should need to manually defrost the freezer coils, they are, I think, under the floor of the freezer. To defrost them, I'm told, a hair drier works better than boiling water. The defrost thermostat is in there too, a one inch unit with two wires. It should have no continuity warm, closed circuit frozen. If it has open circuit frozen, that would be your problem.

Kenmore 106.7687461 about once a week refrig stop, light still on?

Try to locate the defrost timer. It sounds like the defrost timer has an intermittent fault and is not operating as it should. It should be situated in the compressor compartment. It is a white or black box with a little knob protruding from it. When the motor stops again, try turning the little knob on the timer untill you hear a loud click. The motor should then start running again. If it does, the timer is faulty. Replace it.
