The only thing that comes to mind is that you might have your recorder hooked up to the video out of your TV. Most times the video out only works when the TV is actually on.

check how you have your cables routed and reply back if this isn't the issue.

Be sure you have first set the clock correctly. After setting timer recorder time, channel, speed etc. hit enter to highlight the setting to be sure you have it. Press setup to put you back to tv screen. Then press t-Set button on remote. Unit will automatically shut off and there will be an amber symbol on the unit lcd along with the time. This indicated the unit is in the timer mode. It will automatically turn on and record the program at the set time.

It seems that you are keeping the recorder close to the TV set resulting distortion in the picture due to power supply hum, check by keeping it away from set if no change than check the reason of hum received from power supply of recorder by replacing electrolytic capacitors for leakage or proper shielding of power supply in side the recorder.

With 2 tvs you set to record on 1 and it records on 2 instead?records on the opposite tv

Hello, Matthew Gonzales with DISH Network here. The default setting in our receivers are to automatically record everything onto TV2. You can change the setting by pressing menu-8- 5 (preferences-record plus), then you can either disable the feature, or set it to record onto TV1. If the feature is disabled, the show will record at whichever TV the timer is set up on. If it is set to TV1, all timers will attempt to record on TV1 (unless TV1 already has a recording going on it then it goes to TV2). Hope this helps.

Lost manual. Cannot get HR A591U JVC VCR program to record a future cable tv program. Seems I have tried everything but it does not record as I set up. It will record an existing show by pressing...

Timer Recording JVC VCR HR A591U
Timer recording can be programmed on-screen with
the remote control. The built-in timer allows automatic
unattended recording of up to 8 programs within 1
month.

EXAMPLE: Program a timer recording for the 26th day,
channel 125 (CATV), 11:00 - 11:30 PM on timer program
number 1 (Tape speed: EP).

When a TV is connected with an audio/video cable, turn the
TV and this VCR on and select the video input mode on the
TV.

• After timer recording is completed, the VCR turns off
automatically.
• You can program the timer recording while a regular
recording is in progress; the menu screens will not be
recorded.
• The timer recording will start at 20 seconds before the time
you predetermined.

Press MENU on the Remote.
Check the “TIMER REC SET”
option is selected, then press
ENTER.

Press SET –/+ to select one of
the program lines, then press
ENTER.

Press SET –/+ to select the
date, then press ENTER.

Set the start time, end time,
channel and tape speed as in
step 3.
NOTE: To record from external
source, press SET –/+
and set the channel to
"L". "L" will appear next
to CH 125 (or 69).

To enter other programs,
repeat step 2 through 4. Or,
press MENU twice to return
to the normal screen.

Press TIMER on the Remote.
The power will go off, the
TIMER REC indicator ( ) will
light and the VCR stands by
for recording.

To cancel a program:

Press the SET –/+ to select the
“TIMER REC SET” option in the
MENU. Then press SET –/+ to
select the unnecessary program,
and press CANCEL to cancel the
program.

I cannot get the VCR/DVD to record from my tv. I have a satellite dish. The input from the dish receiver to the tv is HDMI1. The DVD receiver hooks into the AV1 inputs. I can set the timer, but nothing...

I have no direct experience but you should note no recording will take place unless the signal format is suitable/compatible. HDMI is a digital signal and your VCR/DVD will probably require an analogue signal.

A tv processes the digital into analogue but sockets at the back of tv sets tend to be input only. A minority of tv sets have two scart sockets, the second one usually providing an output sound and video of what is playing on the tv at the time.

I believe it is possible to buy a box that will convert digital to analogue or vice-versa.

Cannot record VCR thru Cable Box

make sure that the cable runs first through the cable box then through the VCR then to the TV.

if you know how to set timers on your cable box (if you have that option), set those in addition to your VCR timer. If you don't have that feature or are not sure, you will, unfortunately, have to keep the cable box on a certain channel before you record.

hope this helps!!
