Have your technician check your thermostat control first, see if there is some faulty circuit on it, if non then your motor compressor, there might be some mechanical failure inside your motor compressor

Hi, my hotpoint fridge/freezer FF187E its my fridge area not cooling and my freezer is working but starting too get ice around the sides and that.

sometimes its just easer to replace the defrost termination thermostat get a 55F for about 15.00 bucks and just change it, if it works thats the problem, if not, it may be the element or defrost timer

G.E. Bottom freezer evap drain keeps freezing up and ice build up stops fan so no cooling in fridge compartment. How can this be solved?

When the freezer section gets cold and reaches its required cooling temperature, after that the frost on freezer section starts defrosting and the cooling fan in the freezer section blows this cool air from freezer to fridge. But if the defrost cycle does not start then over ice will get collected on freezer ventilations and that will block the air passing section from freezer to fridge, so the freezer gets cool but fridge section does not cool. Its defrost problem. Try manual defrost by unplugging the refrigerator from main power outlet for 24 hours then reconnect it and check, if the same problem is noticed again,. If yes then its defrost board problem. The defrost board located in the back of fridge section. You can get required parts from www.repairclinic.com or from online sears part site. ------------- Thank you.

The compressor and fan run but the refrigerator and freezer compartment do not cool down to an adequate temperature. The freezer does not get below freezing (32F) and the fridge does not get below 55F

Check your compressor for over heat (put your hand on it without burning)
Check for ice on back wall of freezer and on the freezer coils (defrost problem)
Check cond fan in back of fridge.
Clean cond coils

Refrigerator not cool, freezer ok

Either the freezer continues to freeze up (most likely due to low refrigerant, due to a leak), or there is an obstruction between the freezer and the refrigerator (refrigerators get their cooling from the freezer).

Given that it works after you defrost it, I'm going with low gas. Call a professional to see if the leak can be fixed. If the unit is more than 10 years old, just get a new one.

Freezer doing fine but refrigerator doesn't seem to cool well. What should the refrigerator temperature be

34F (to 38F at most). Purchase a dial fridge thermometer and hang it from the 2nd shelf from the top.

Kenmore Side by Side Refrigerator, freezer doesn't work, refrigerator works

Unless specifically made for use in a garage most units won't work properly. The owners manual should say what the temp range for proper operation is (usually 55F is the low range). This is because the refrigerator section doesn't need to be "cooling" to maintain 37F if the temps on the outside are below 55F. These things are made to work in a 70F room and will not work properly if under 55F. Stupid thing thinks it's cold enough so it will never turn on, the refer section will stay cold/cool due to outside temps but since the compressor never runs the freezer will just be the same temp as the refer section (at best). Sorry, but in order for a freezer or refrigerator to work in an unheated space it must have the temp control device controling the freezer section NOT the fresh food section. In other words, that model will not work in a garage unless the temps are above 55F always.

Frigidaire FRT18HB5DW2 fridge not cooling

Sounds like an air flow problem to the lower unit. Take the sheetmetal or plastic rear cover off the freezer back wall and make sure the coils are frosted up good and even but NOT a block of ice inches thick (air needs to circulate and a blocked coil won't let air move over it efficiently). Make sure the fan is running to move the air around. In the fridge area make sure the air dampers are letting the cold air from the freezer down to the fridge compartment. Depending on what you find will determine the next steps so let us know.
