Re: camcoder ,PS3 or DVD player output to Laptop screen
I've had the same problem with two other unrelated HP input products in this area myself so I understand the pain. Media Center is not really well geared for nor is very friendly in the end user component input area. I'm assuming you've already tried playing a video file from your camcorder while setting up the Media Center input settings? Try a different software that will recognize your input card. Ideally, you should use any input software that came with the card itself from the manufacturer. Contact the manufacturer for a link to the original software bundle if you can't find it from their website or you may need to research your own replacement software solution for this product.

If you don't have a Progressive Scan TV or you don't have the DVD player connected to the correct Input Jacks, and you activate Progressive Scan in the DVD player you won't see a picture! Don't panic-try the following:
First, press the PREV/VIDEO button on the front of the DVD player (it will go to the next video output option, which is an interlace output so a picture should appear on the TV screen). If that doesn't work, press and hold PREV/VIDEO button on the front of the DVD player for 3 seconds. Now, press the PREV/VIDEO button again (it will go to the next video output option, which is an interlace output so a picture should appear on the TV screen). If you still don't see a picture on your TV screen, make sure the yellow cable (provided) that is attached to white and red cable (called audio/video cables) is connected to the DVD player's PREV/VIDEO jack and the TV's Video Input jack. Change your TV channel to your TV's Video Input
channel that activates the TV's VIdeo Input jack where you have connected the yellow cable (page 9 of your manual has more information). This PREV/VIDEO jack on the DVD player always outputs interlace video, so you should see a picture on the TV screen.
As a last resort, you can reset the DVD player to the factory default settings:
Press and hold the STOP button on the remote control and the NEXT button on the front of the player at the same time - wait at least 5 seconds before you release both buttons
follow this steps and fix it. Merry Christmas.
Turn on your DVD player.
Open the DVD player's main drive, also commonly called the DVD "tray." The region cannot be changed while a DVD is in the machine, so many DVD players require the tray to be open as an extra precaution.
Push "Info" or "Setup" on your remote.
Use the remote to select the "Region" option as indicated on your TV screen.
Select "Region 9" to change the system to multiregion formatting. Regions 1 through 8 represent specific geographic locations and will not allow multiregion playback.
The HDMI connector at your laptop is output. The HDMI connector at the DVD player is an output also. So it's out of the question to connect two outputs, you may want to use the HDMI output from the dvd player to be connected at a tv or screen with HDMI input.

"You can reset all models of DVD Players with the following method: 1) Switch the player into standby and empty the disc tray. 2) Using the front panel buttons, hold down the STOP button and press
STANDBY/ON to switch the player back on."
Have you tried setting the PS3 on linear PCM output instead of bitstream? The DVR 50 may not say Dolby Digital since the optical cable goes directly from the PS3 to it but you may get the surround channel output you're looking for.
i have the same issue i don't know the solution to ur original problem of B&W..
I think you might have unknowingly changed the "Video Output".. don't worry...to change it back.. do the following steps
1) Switch on dvd player with no disc
2) wait for few secs and press setup on remote
3)press -> (rt arrow) once
4) press enter
5) press down arrow twice
6) press enter
7) press up arrow once(or twice)
8) press enter
hopefully this shud work..
