So my Iphone 3g wont turn on or charge. It was completely dead and I charged it but all i get is the plug>electricity symbol and then it turns to a blank screen again even though it is currently plugged into the wall. Ive tried:
1) holding down the home and power buttons
2) rebooting my PC while the iphone is plugged in
3) holding the home button then plugging the iphone into the wall
all i keep getting is the plug>electricity symbol it seems to be different from all your other problems.....PLEASE HELP??!

I just had this problem and it turned out to be... It didn't like my iPod cable. Switched to the iPhone cable and it worked.
Seems to be an iPhone 2.0 prob, or 3g prob, since I was using the iPod cable to sync my old iPhone just fine.

For some reason I can't imagine you completely bricked your iPhone just by attempting the downgrade, but if you really can't revive it by trying the hard reset there seems to be a hardware issue with your board. There are iphone repair guides that show you how to replace it and parts are available on ebay.

Try using another cable or charger. A damaged charger or cable could cause it not to charge.
Otherwise, contact apple or apple store for repair.
SOURCE: Shows fully charged (plug icon), but isn't taking a charge. A;ready tried reboot/restore.
Get a can of air and blow it into the 30-pin connector and headphone jack to clear the phone of dust and build-up. This should clear up the problem. I learned this from an Apple Store Genius Bar associate.
