I'm not 100% sure if this will help but there is a free mp3 codec called 'lame' http://lame.sourceforge.net/index.php that might help if the original webcam installation disk can't fix it.

Windows 7 gets stuck while playing windows media player files and slows down the system

With nothing running, I would click on Start ' Run ' Type CMD to get to a Command Prompt.

From the Command Prompt, type sfc /scannow

This will run the Windows Resource Checker Version 6.0 program and it will verify All Windows files on your system are correct and not corrupted. At the end of the scan, if you get a message that indicates it could Not fix the problem, re-run the above command again.

The Other option is to download a program called MediaInfo. Once you install this program, it will allow you to right-click a Media File (.mpg, avi, mov, etc) and check to see details about the media file. You can download this Free program from address: https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo

Another More useful program is something called the Sherlock Codec Detective. This Free program will tell you if your system has all of the required Codecs to play the file you are trying. You can download this Free program from address:

http://www.updatexp.com/sherlock-codec-detective.html

The File is located here:
http://s3.amazonaws.com/sherlock/sherlock.exe

***
So, after you install MediaInfo and see what the file contains in terms of Codecs, you use the Sherlock program to see if your system is missing any files that are required to play this. Anything missing will typically be shown in Reg under the column Video Codecs Installed (within Sherlock)

***

The "other" option is to download a Free program called the Media Player Codec Pack found at this address:

https://www.mediaplayercodecpack.com/

I would install either the Lite or Standard edition of the Codecs. I know some users will say Stay Away from Codecs, but since I found this Free program years ago, I can smoothly play DVD movies on my system. Please be aware that you should Backup your System before installing this Codec pack as it May over right a paid for Codec you might already have currently on your system.

This software is compatible with:
Microsoft Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7, Vista, XP, 2000, 2008, & 2003

Microsoft Windows Media Player 12, 11 & 10

Any player compatible with DirectShow

***

The Last option I have is to make sure your Windows 7 system is up to date with installs. Do a manual check for updates and look under
the Optional Updates. If I remember correctly there was several patches/fixes from Microsoft to fix issues with the Media Player as well.

Best of Luck!

There is no mixer devices

sounds like you are missing the audio driver for your system. try downloading and installing the driver from here :

http://ac97-audio-codec.en.softonic.com/download

then, look close to the bottom of the page, find the link that says "Alternate AC'97 Audio Codec download" and click on it.

It will start downloading a program called "WDM_A406.exe". Click on the save button. After it has downloaded the program, run it by double clicking on the file WDM_A406.exe and follow the instructions.

Did this solve your problem?

Bought ion powerplay lp to convert vinyl to mp3 and then to itunes. spoke with ion tech. i dont have usb audio codec for recording on my windows7. he sent me zipped attachment info to try to get usb audio...

leonardglase

I am not sure what this tech was talking about as an "usb audio codec". There is no such thing. What he most likely ment is that you do not have the drivers installed properly for the audio device.

As for those files you do not open them for say they are driver files. The other issue you may be running into is that with changes made in Windows 7 and Vista by default most audio sound cards do not support analog mix. This allows you to record audio from more than on audio channel at once.

I used to work for Creative Labs so I understand how all this works. However I do not know much about the device you bought to record your records with. If can let me know the model number for the device I can look up the info on it and tell you how to get your records recorded into an MP3 format. Also if you have a link to the product this would help me out too.

Also let me know if you are using a notebook or desktop computer. This can help me see what we will need to do. Inaddition let me know if you have access to a computer that runs Windows XP. I have on of my Windows 7 system that this would not work on just because of the way the sound cards drivers are for the computer its self.

I have a dell gx260 all my web video sound like chipmunks , media player works fine and i did all the troubleshoot test and it works just fine . The main problem is the web content all sound like chipmunks...

Hi.
This is usually caused by a missing codec, so the computer tries to compensate, and the results aren't always acceptable.

I would download a codec package called K-Lite codec pack, it has every codec needed.

Here is a link for it.

http://www.codecguide.com/download_k-lite_codec_pack_mega.htm

Click on the direct download selection there on the page, and it will download an installer with all the codecs.

Run the program after it is done downloading, and then after running it, reboot your computer.

There is a selection for 64 bit on the page as well, in case you are running 64 bit operating system.

Once rebooted, your chipmunk audio problem should be resolved.

I hope this helps you out, and have a good day.

The video and audio will not play due to the missing codec

To play videos and audios, you need to install a codec to help your player to decode the video file you have.

You can download the free codec from here :
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/k_lite_codec_pack.htm

1) Click the Download K-Lite Codec Pack
2) Run the setup or the installer.
3) Follow the instruction prompted to you.

I hope the above information will be helpful. Thank you for using Fixya.

Why won't Sony Vegas pro 9 play my videos?

Yes, you are missing a video codec. Download GSpot, load your video file and it will tell you what codec was used, then you can look for it and download it, it will solve your problem. http://www.afterdawn.com/software/audio_video/codecs/gspot.cfm

Screen goes blank

Video on a computer is comprised of two components, known as codecs. The audio codec decodes the audio, and the video codec decodes the sound. If one of these codecs is missing or corrupted, then either the sound or the video won't work. I'm surprised it's happening with youtube since their video is quite a generic format. If you can get hold of a file where this happens, there is a utility called GSpot which takes the file and tries to render it, reporting detailed failures where a codec is not working or not found. Try running your piece of video through that and googling the results, you will likely be able to find a codec that fixes your problem.
