IBM Wheelwriter 6

The "Lang" light on the right hand side of the keyboard is lit, with the result that every 5 or 6 key strikes overtypes the previous character. How do I turn off this mode?

Depending on the age either code "L" or "X" (LANG) key.

I have a Wheelwriter 6 and the Lang light is on, (I don't know what I did) How do I get it off?

I believe you push the language key while holding down the code key or just push the language key by itself.

Keys strike paper but don't space

Is it all of the keys or just some of the keys don't space? Check to see if the lang light is turned on. If it is, hold down the control button (the button left of the spacebar) and hit the letter "X" and see if the light goes out.

When typing regularly each letter gives a differ letter thats on the keypad.

First check to see if the LANG is lit on the display, if so Code "L: will turn it off. If that is OK then Press coce and "L: key, release the code, type 001, release the "L" key. This will set the keyboard to USA standard. If this works your keyboard is failing. Contact

Wheelwriter 6 typewriter hammer no longer strikes

It is pretty common for the pad on the solenoid to strike the keys wears out, and for the batteries to be dead for the memory. Your machine probably needs a good cleaning, oiling, and a new pad for the striker. about $100.00 in the shop.

yes it was true that the cap was broken. temporarily, i just cut a piece of plastic from a spoon, same thickness as the cap then place it between the plunger and the solenoid. and now my wheelwriter is typing great! all letters are clear and much black in color. thanks for pointing where the cap was place. easy to find it.

Keys stick

I memory serves me the wheelwriter keyboard is a sealed unit. to remove the housing look for two slots on each side of the lower part of the upper case insert a slim screw drriver into the slot to release the top from the bottom case.

The print solenoid has the plastic cap on the end broken or desintagrated. i fix this all the time. also make sure you didnt turn on the lang feature. that will keep your carrier in one spot for certain foreign symbols. to clear it hold down the features key next to the space bar and hit the lang key with the features key depressed.
