Question about Dell Latitude D820 Notebook

USB Drive on the Dell Lattitude D820

When I plug in any storage device such as a flash drive or a storage unit, it gives a message that the device needs to be formatted. With my IPod, it says that it's corrupt. It does recognize my Blackberry Desktop manager and updates my phone. Could you explain?

A flash drive is basically an USB Hard drive. It is a very handy device once you have figured out to use it.

Flash drives come in different internal storage sizes, so it is best you buy one that suits your needs. What makes it even better, is the fact that it is a plug-n-play device, which means that you will not have to install any drivers.

If you do not know what the storage capacity of your flash drive is, follow these steps to determine the storage size.

Plug the flash drive into your Desktop/Notebook USB port.

6aac1fd.jpeg 626f603.jpg 244a6f8.jpg

  1. Double click on the My Computer icon on your desktop.
  2. Now you should see your flash drive listed as a hard drive.
  3. Right click on your flash drive.
  4. Choose the properties option.
  5. Go to the general tab.
Now you should be able to see clearly how much of the storage is used, and how much free space you still have left.

To use the flash drive as a storage device:

  1. Almost all flash drives are Plug and play, thus plug the flash drive into the USB port, wait for your computer to detect the flash drive.
  2. Once detected, open the drive by double clicking on it's icon in My computer.
  3. Now you just need to copy the files and paste it on the flash drive.
  4. Copy the file by right clicking on it, choose the copy option.
  5. Go to the flash drive and right click, choose the paste option.
  6. When you are done. remember to go to the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon situated at the bottom of the Window's tray. Click "Eject" or the "Remove the Hardware Safely" option when finished.
Remember, if the files you want to copy is larger than the internal storage capacity of the flash drive, the file will not copy.

Hope this can give you a rough idea how to use a flash drive!!

Kind regards
Andrea

D820 camera how to use

I am sorry but according to the Dell Support web site, the Latitude D820 laptop does not have a camera as a standard accessory. . . .
See http://support.euro.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/latd820/en/index.htm for the D820 User Guide and Service Manual documents. . .
If you are using an external web camera, then this would normally come with its own software to be installed and would plug into a spare USB port. . .
If you are connecting a digital camera, then you should have been provided with a suitable USB connection cable to make the connection between the camera and the laptop - you may be able to use your operating system software if the camera is detected as an external storage device, otherwise, you should install the software utilities that came with your digital camera.

When i try boot my dell xps 420 it states that there is no boot device available. Why does it say this?

A boot device stores your operating system (i.e. Windows), and is usually your hard drive, but can be any storage medium such as a floppy, usb flash drive, or even a cd rom. When you turn your computer on, your motherboard looks for your OS on any of the storage devices specified in your bios, in the order specified to look first (Ex. Boot order: 1. CD-Rom, 2. Floppy, 3. Hard Drive, 4. Network). Your Dell is telling you that it can't find Windows on any of these devices. Most likely cause is that your hard drive stopped working, your Windows boot.ini file became corrupted, or you have a USB device plugged into your computer, and it needs to be unplugged before turning on your computer.

USB message "No Music Data"

First you need to make sure you have the right formats saved onto the flash drive. The "mp3" format is the most common. Second, once you put the flash drive into the head unit, it should auto detect, if not then you need to put it on USB. Try that and get back to me.

How do I get started using a USB flash drive and how do I set up a security system?

hey, heres something that would help u:  Copying files to a flash drive on a PC:
  1. Open My Computer and see which drives are shown. Most computers, for example, have a hard disk such as a C: drive and a few removable storage devices such as a floppy drive, a CD-ROM drive, and perhaps a zip drive.
  2. Insert the flash drive into the USB port and watch to see where the USB flash drive appears. Most will appear as removable storage, but some will instead appear as hard drives. Note the name Windows is using to refer to the flash drive ("Removable Disk (G:)," for example).
  3. Open My Documents or the location from which you want to transfer files to the flash drive. Select the files or folders you want to save to the flash drive by left-clicking on them. To select more than one, hold down the CTRL key while you click and select all of the files you wish to save.
  4. Right-click on the file(s) or folder(s) you selected, then select Send to, then select the name you saw appearing in My Computer for the flash drive ("Removable Disk (G:)," for example).
  5. When the copying is finished, do not immediately remove the flash drive from the USB port. Instead, left-click on the Remove Hardware icon toolbar.gif located in the System Tray. A window containing a list of the USB devices will appear. Left-click on the Safely Remove Mass Storage Device line that matches your flash drive (for example, Safely Remove Mass Storage Device - Drive(G:)).
  6. When you see the following message appear in the bottom left toolbar, it is, as it says, safe to remove the flash drive from the USB port; you may close the message or ignore it, as it will close itself automatically:
