Hi chris here im using a gx300 with a 100w linear amp on the 27mhz band i can hear people but still cant seem to get out im using a staion master antenna please help tried everything

Yikes, using a linear on CB is illegal! You could get into real trouble doing that. The radio \'barefoot\' with that antenna should work very well, and will be legal. If you hear stations, but cannot contact them, there is a good possibility that the linear is not working. Or, the radio may not be putting out power. Do you have access to a watt meter or SWR meter? Find someone who has these instruments, and they can help you out. Best of luck to you!

I can hear my friend but he cant hear me..... swrs on both are fine,,, both base stations, im using a homebrew dipole and hes using an upside down whip stuck to a ceiling grid

First of all, how far are you from your friend? Second, he does not hear you but does he hear anyone else on his radio? If not, he might have a receive problem with his station but it's not his antenna. If he hears other traffic, your signal does not get out. If you don't have anyone else in the area, swap antennae with your friend and this will tell you if it's antenna related or radio related. Let me know what you find out or give me more info! Good luck!

I have spotty reception on a handheld CB and was wondering if there is a testing procedure I can use to check the antenna and radio. I have a multimeter. It's a radio shack handheld with weather bands...

The antenna is your problem not much gain. Height is everything tx and rx. Although it would not compare to a conventional cb size negates performance. Seeing is believing in this case hearing get adapter to connect to standard coax of antenna. (PL259) to BNC Coax Adapter Radio Shack sells them. And dont ask or buy any radios there. They are hardly the radioshack of choice anymore.

  • If you put 4 watts into a four-foot antenna, you will get the same power out of that antenna as if you were putting 2 watts into a 102-inch whip.
  • If you put 4 watts into a 3-foot antenna you will get the same power out as if you were putting about 1.5 watts into a 102-inch whip.
  • If you put 4 watts into a 7.5 inch antenna on a hand held CB, it would put out as much power as a third of a watt into a 102-whip.
  • If you put 4 watts into a 102-inch whip antenna, it is the same output as if you put 11 watts into a 3-foot whip.
  • If you put 4 watts into a 102-inch whip antenna,, it is the same as if you put 14 watts into a 28-inch antenna.
  • If you put 4 watts into a 102-inch whip antenna, it is the same as if you put 54 watts into a 7.5 antenna.

have the swr's checked on the antenna. It should be free at any cb shop if not dont trust them. that should be a service to the public for you they provide... make sure the antenna is clear from any metal objects near it.

The antenna didnt came out so i cant hear the radio,i check the fuses already but everything looks good no bad fuses

Can you hear the antenna motor working when you turn on the radio? If you can but the mast (antenna) does not come up it means you need a new mast. The plastic cable that makes the mast go up is broken. Sometimes it's cheaper to buy a whole new power antenna assembly, which includes everything.

No am radio but fm works fine

I don't know why you need AM, but that's not the issue.
If you have FM and HEAR it ok, then everything is fine. You've hooked it up right.
Not being able to find AM, is in the new radio.
You need to look to see how to tune to AM.
Maybe the paperwork that came with it!

Can recieve but not transmit

The mic wires are soldered incorrectly. Get another cobra mic for that radio or have a qualified radio tech correct the wiring.

Cant hear anyone

Is the squelch off? Is there even a crackle from the speaker? Does it appear to go into transmit?
If you have a friend can listen in while you try transmitting, get him to let you know if voice can be heard, or a carrier appears (on AM). If TX OK, try sideband, if OK, look for faulty speaker/ socket/ wiring. If no audio on TX, suspect the audio amp is bad.
