Try entering safe mode
if you can boot in safe mode you can try system restore
if that does not work either, you will need to reinstall a fresh copy of windows

Computer comes on and is fine for a while then just cuts off, then turn it back on then its fine for a while then cuts back off.

Hello

To start with, you should check all your hardware. A loose connection somewhere or a faulty piece of hardware could be the reason, the computer keeps rebooting itself. In case your RAM stick is not fitted properly, or is corrupt, the computer displays an error message on the screen and keeps rebooting itself. The same problem occurs with a hard disk. You can use 'Memtest86' to run a hard drive check.

You may at times come across an error message on your screen, like a system failure error, before rebooting by itself. There is a particular solution to this type of problem. You should first go to the My Computer icon and right click on it. Select properties, and a window will appear on your screen. Click Advanced tab → Start Up and Recovery → Settings. After clicking the settings option, you will have to uncheck the box next to Automatically Restart. Click OK twice. This will prevent the computer from rebooting itself and you can redress the issue.

A different way to tackle the problem of 'computer keeps rebooting itself', would be to restart your computer in the Safe Mode. Allow the computer to boot fully and let your windows operating system load fully. Now, if your computer keeps rebooting itself even in the safe mode, there is a problem either with the operating system or hardware. And if your computer is not rebooting itself in safe mode, the problem is related to certain software.

Over heating is another reason why your computer keeps rebooting itself. Not many people pay attention to this aspect though. The fan responsible for keeping the CPU cool, may be malfunctioning or there could be dirt settled between the fan and CPU. Any one of these could be the reason for your problem. Either clean the fan area, or replace it if necessary. Try providing proper ventilation for your CPU, so that it stays as cool as possible.

You computer could reboot on it's own if you have installed improper drivers. Right click on the 'My Computer' icon, and click on 'Properties' from the menu list which appears. A new window will open. Select the 'Hardware' tab, and click on 'Device Manager'. A list will be displayed on the screen in which you will have to check all categories. Is you see any red or yellow warning icons, make sure you update that particular driver from the internet.

Continuously rooboot itself?

Hi.

When the laptop keeps rebooting shortly after Windows starts loading the reason is usually because the system files loaded by Windows at startup are corrupted.
Windows cannot complete booting and keeps restarting.
The fastest way to Fix the problem is by reinstalling Windows.
If Windows is installed on the same directory of the existing system performing an upgrade installation, the setup process will preserve all personal files, most installed software and settings.
Before reinstalling Windows you can try starting in safe mode (eg. on XP pressing f8 on startup). If the computer starts in safe mode, go to system restore and perform a restore to a date before the problem occurred. Unfortunately when the computer keeps re-booting ut will hardly start in safe mode. Often reinstalling Windows is the only option available.

My dell laptop keeps rebooting itself no matter what mode i try rebooting it in, it just keeps going round in a cycle, the furthest i get is the microsoft windows xp screen then starts all over again

if it keeps on repeating again and again have your laptop check by pc tech, a device failure or software is causing these to your laptop, take it to tech as soon as posible to avoid any more damage to the unit, dont do anything if youre unsure on what to do

My Gateway GT4010 PC keeps rebooting itself before

Try replacing the hard drive cable. If that doesn't fix the problem, then you may have bad RAM, bad motherboard or a bad power supply. Sounds like a hardware issue and not software. try booting your computer in safe mode since it doesn't load all the device drivers. If it still reboots then you'll have to keep swapping parts and booting up the computer to isolate the problem.

The system will reboot after the installation of the boot sector in order to install the rest of windows. Just let it reboot and it will continue to install. If this is not the problem you are experiencing tell me all of the details of what is happening and I can help.
