Hello,
Install the Os again.

If you have operating system. boot able cd reinstall or repair it.
Also you can restore the system as factory setting.
Alt + F10 is working fine to get factory default set up menu in Sony Vaio.

I have been connecting my Sony Vaio VGN-FE21M for several months with the LG LCD monitor to watch TV while online. Then yesterday all of the sudden the laptop shows blank screen, but the LG monitor is...

I need to know what operating system you're using (like windows vista). However, it seems like the control has moved to the LG screen, and not laptop. You can set several options when connecting a monitor to a laptop - both screens are available, one screen is off and the other screen is off.

Please post your operating system so that I guide you how to change these settings.

Hi i have a soney vaio, and when the compter

Does it do this on the wall power supply?, I suspect not?, It may well be in the Power Settings for the system, but if on battery sometimes the screen dulls right down to save battery, and the lower th battery the duller the screen... If at home, it really should be plugged into the adapter, and really only used off adapter when out, not near power. The power settings ACPI and used by Windows. seems to be to dowith it as you say BEFORE Windows loads, it is OK, after it is not, so it must be a Windows setting?

Only strts up with the power cord connected, but takes me to a window that makes me pick safe mode, go to the prior set up, o normal estart up tried all but gets me back to that window

It sounds like your battery has died on you. If you start it up and when you can see anything pull the power cord out. if it just dies on you then that is your problem. A replacement battery is $70-$150 depending on where you get it from. It pays to shop around online and even around town.

The rest of your errors should just be caused by windows not shutting down properlly. When you get your battery fixed it should go back into safe mode once more and then reboot properlly into normal windows.
It is possible that windows has become corrupted but not shutting down which means it would need to be reinstalled.

Sounds like you have one of 4 problems.

1) the screen has gone bad.
2) the cable to the screen is bad or lose.
3) the drivers have become corrupted - try reinstalling them for the video card.
4) the vimbedded video card has gone bad.

Sony vaio VGN FS 742W notebook Startup problem. When swithed ON,Vaio,Window XP screen appears and then window 'isass' appears & notebook swithes OFF automatically.Pl.advise solution for the above....

If Windows appears, and start booting, then the problem concerns the operative system and not the hardware.

That is good news, because all you need to do is using the original computer recovery disk, or finding a Windows setup disk to reinstall Windows.

To reinstall Windows, start the computer with the Recovery Disk or Windows Disk inside and chose Boot from CD when asked, then follow instructions.

Regards.
