Overheating can cause "freezing" -- did the repair-shop used compressed-air to blow-out a bunch of dust & dirt ?

Rather than discarding the computer, take the "System Restore" CD-ROM that was originally shipped with the computer, and reinstall Windows. If you have lost those disks, contact Sony, and order a replacement CD-ROM.

Then, install a good, free, anti-virus product, e.g., "Microsoft Security Essentials":

http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

to prevent it from getting re-infected.

Hi torr3s_t,
Here is a web site where you can download your computers manual: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=PCVW510Ga . I would copy and paste the web site.
Here is Sony's support Number for computers: 239-768-7545 Monday- Saturday 11:00 AM-8:00 PM ET
Hope this helps,

Hard Disk Crash

If you have replaced HDD of your machine, then there is no otherway to get your things back rather than installing them. If you have CDs from Sony, then you are safe.

Problem with Sony Vaio pcv-rx860 (screen goes black at startup)

I would suggest first to try to take one stick of memory out and try to boot up the pc. Sometimes, one or both of the memory sticks can go bad or the memory slot on the motherboard itself can go bad. If that is not the case I would then remove all of the usb connected to the computer and last i would test the power supply.
