Question about Sanyo PLV-Z2 Multimedia Projector

5 Answers

I was told by a dealer I have a cleaning problem. I recently changed my bulb after the original one quit. Ever since, we have a pretty bad blue streak on the right side of the screen and somewhat across the top as well. The rest of the picture looks great, but this blue area covers almost the left hand quarter of the screen. I need specific directions on how to clean this thing--if that is the problem--or if not, your help in determining what the problem is. Schematics would be helpful if I need to clean. Thanks

Does the blue streak problem sound like a cleaning issue to you???

  • jsvisme Nov 13, 2009

Also, my unit is a PLV-Z2, not a Z1. Will that make a difference in your schematics?

Hi, Sorry, I didn't mean to "reject" you--I'm new at this. Could you please finish your reply to me about the PLV-Z2 vs Z1 schematics??? If it will make a difference--and do you have instructions for cleaning that are written as well? I'd appreciate a reply. Thank you

I did not get all of your comments--only the last sentence came through on the post. Could you try again please?

  • jsvisme Nov 14, 2009

I"m having trouble extracting the files you had me download. Is there any way you could email me the PDF file for the service manual? Every time I try to extract the program tells me I need a "volume" that I don't have. Can you help me?

I had a similar problem with the Z2, had to have the blue LCD panel replaced. If it's not under warranty it's going to be cheaper to replace it. Symptoms were a blue tint around one side and the top that was irregular and slowly grew bigger and got worse. I hope it's something different, but I fear this is your problem. I believe these units suffer from a barely adequate cooling system as this seems to be very common even for those of us that clean the air filter like clockwork.

Did you replace the bulb with one of the same brand as the original. I know that some projectors and televisions as well are very finicky about which bulb to use.

NO schematics needed unless your doing electrical work on it in that case the only way to get one is from Sanyo..., you need to clean all optics (lenses/mirrors) in the machine do not use any harsh cleaners, something made for computer monitors and lcd screens, do not use Windex...

Cleaning inside optics unit (light engine) is required expertise. Experienced tech can do the job properly and novice can damage this critical part of multimedia projector.
I have PLV-Z1 schematics that can be sent to you.
Below is an exploded view taken from service manual shows filters and lenses in light engine.
Thanks.

Hi, Anonymous I would look for melted wires in the high beam light circuit, for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix/test or parts inquiry. If necessary transport your vehicle to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your issue. Both low beams (HID) are out. dealer says both

Chris,

I actually have been dealing with this problem with my 2007 Mazda Cx-7 since I bought the car a little over a year ago with only 33,000 miles...its rediculous! I brought it to Mazda once before the warranty ran out and they told me it was fine, again after my warranty was over they told me it would cost $375 to order and replace the HID bulb..instead I bought the bulb off of partstrain.com for $80 and the bulb still did the same thing.... Finally brough it back to Mazda the diagnosis cost me $163.07 for them to tell me that my "Headlight Module" was out and it would be over an $800 fix! In your case if both of them are doing that it would be twice that! Mazda finally paid for the majority of it but won't return my $163.07 even though I told them there was a problem when I first bought the car!!!! In today's economy who has that much money to be throwing around trying to figure out whats wrong with the DEFECTED PARTS that Mazda places in its vehicles???!!! Good Luck!

Bottom right side of screen (about 4 inches high) has blue tint

I had the same problem with my 4 yr old Sony KDF60WF655 rear projection set, and I was fortunate to buy a 4 year extended warranty - because it was the "Optic Block", ($1300. -not incl labor), that was replaced to fix the problem. That part contains all new LCDs, & multiple Lens & some electronics. I had already got a new bulb (under warranty) a few weeks earlier, that I had not yet installed so the service guy did replace that as well. (This happened 3 weeks before my warranty ended).

He told me that he replaces hundreds of Sony Optic Blocks every year and that many Sony Rear Projection sets have automatic FACTORY extended warranties (up to 10 years), because of some known problems with the blue LCD panels. You might want to contact a SONY office & see if your set is covered.

ALSO - The tech checked my Service Codes & showed me the TV had been running for 10051 hours in about 4 years - on the Original bulb! He was quite surprised because he said the bulbs usually last about 5000 - 7000 hours. He also said it's good to replace them BEFORE they go bad, because they can sometimes burn out the amplifier that powers the bulb, (which is a seperate piece that attaches to the outside of the Optic Block). My TV is like new now.

Blueish tint on picture

no... lcp panels will look different when going bad ! this is the polarization filter, most of the time the one BEFORE the lcd panel (blue in this case). these should be cheap but are not easy to get...so you might pay quite a lot. you can also buy polarization filter sheets and cut them to size. keep in mind to check for the right orientation !
