The drain hose on a washing machineElectrolux dishwasher won't drain. Not a clog in - mag-glass_10x10.gif connects the drain pump to a stand pipe, a U-pipe under the sink, or another place for draining dirty water into the sewer. If your washer won't drain properly, the problem is sometimes an object blocking the drain hose, like a pair of underpants, a child's sock, or pieces of something that broke up in the washer.

  1. Unplug the washer and put the plug on top of the machine to keep it out of any spilled water.
  2. Step 2 Take any wet clothes out of the washer and bail the water out of the drum with the bucket. The washer may be too heavy to move if it's full of water and wet clothing.
  3. Step 3 Pull the washer out from the wall enough for you to get behind it.
  4. Step 4 Remove the plate from the back of the washer by taking out all the screws. Different brands and models of washers vary in how many screws hold on the back plate, and not all models require removing the plate to get to the pump where the hose is attached.
  5. Step 5 Locate the drain hose. Of the three hoses coming out of the back of the washer, the drain hose is the largest in diameter and is attached to a drain pipe instead of a faucet.
  6. Step 6 Check the drain hose for kinks and bends. These are often the cause of a blocked or slow-running drain hose.
  7. Step 7 Remove the drain hose from the washer by detaching it from the drain pump. You will need a screwdriver or a slide-lock wrench to open the clasp that holds the hose to the pump, depending on what type of clasp it is.
  8. Step 8 Keep the bucket nearby to catch any water that comes out of the drain pump when you remove the hose.
  9. Step 9 Remove the other end of the house from the pipe it drains into.
  10. Step 10 Bend the clothes hanger open so you can use it to poke inside the hose. Push or pull out the material that's causing the blockage.
  11. Step 11 Replace the hose and run the washer to check if it's clear.

Won't drain completely

Check the inlet to the pump for blockage, make sure that the outlet pipe is not kinked, that there is nothing obstructing the pipe and that the pump is actually operating. Check the filter to see if it is not clogged or obstructed. If possible back flush through the outlet pipe and try draining the machine once more before using it again.

GE dishwasher GSD2230 won't drain completely after it completes entire cycle.

Hi

Dishwasher not draining issue usually occurs due to kinked drain pipe, clogged drain filter or drain pump. Check the drain hose for any visible clogging, remove if present. If no visible lint is present then remove then turn off the dishwasher and remove the drain hose and check for any visible clogging. If still not visible then the drain filter or drain pump is clogged and you'll need to clean the drain filter and drain pump. Also, check for any food pieces stuck near the pump impeller.

Please note that dishwashers don't drain out the complete water such that heating element doesn't overheat.

Hope this helps... Please post back for any further assistance.

Does not drain even though it is not clogged

How do you know it's not clogged in the pipe/pump/outlet?
There can be several issues with this. If the pipe for the dishwasher is installed wrong, there may not be enough back pressure for the drain pump. See your install instructions.
The drain solenoid may not be functioning. (Listen for a sudden 'Thunk' when the dish washer hits the drain cycle). It may not have a solenoid.
The pump should be running if the dishes get washed.
There is a back flow valve at the drain hose outlet on the pump. Is it jammed/clogged?
The worst is a failure of the pump impeller or diverter. This means a motor.

My fisher paykel DD S03SS dishwasher leaks from the top, & drain

The drawers should not leak unless there is a problem with the vacuum seal. Try cleaning the edges of the doors and operate. You should feel the vacuum is holding the doors. The seals could be faulty or vacuum system may be faulty.

About not draining completely - a possibility is the common drain hose after the U adapter being clogged. Remove the clamp and pass a flexible wire coat hanger towards the main drain pipe. If both drawers are not draining then it is unlikely the drain hose between the U clamp and the dishwasher is clogged. Also make sure the height of inlet water pipe and drain outlet is as specified in the installation manual
