Question about Sewing Machines

1 Answer

I have a GE Spacemaker XL 1800, and it suddenly has stopped heating. All things appear to work except there is no heat. I would assume a faulty door switch wouldn't allow anything to work, so potentially am ruling that out. Only thing that seems a little odd is the keypad panel is loose at the top. I tried holding it in incase there was something there, but no difference. We cleaned the interior last night, and again I shouldn't think that would make a difference. There is a circular panel in the ceiling of the oven that shows a direction to open or close, but it won't turn. Any ideas? Some sort of reset switch inside? Thanks

Does it make sense to have it repaired, or like most things these days just replace it?

Unfortunately I can't repair it myself, unlike clothes washers, dryers, etc, so it would appear a new machine is in the offing.

Hello there:
If everything comes on when it is started, like the light in the cavity and the fan (which one can hear running), and the timer counts down but it doesn't heat, the problem is probably isolated to the high voltage section of the oven.
If the display is on and the oven won't come on and run, there may be a problem in the door interlock system or the thermal protection system.
The cited symptoms and possible causes are general and some slight variation may exist in a specific machine. But the bad news is the same. It's this: there isn't much a user can do to fix the problem without exposure to extreme hazards. There are dangers lurking inside the metal box we all use so frequently (to the point we just about take it for granted). And they can be fatal. Don't even think about trying to repair a microwave. Be smart and be safe. The life you save may be your own.

    Hello there again
    thanks for the post
To be honest with you you would probably spend more money on having it repaired than what you paid for it.
simply because of this the labor and the parts will probably be around 150 dollars alone

My machine stops working, the lights are lit up on the computer head, but doesn't do anything when the peddle is pushed.

there is an electronic unit that is failing and over heating
I suggest that you take it to a service agent to have it properly diagnosed
it could be the motor itself or the speed control that is faulty.

Bernina activa 145. suddenly the machine doesn't stop stiching. it continues stitching at a lower speed. help it's driving me nuts !

There are a few possible issues that could cause this. Over time the carbon contacts inside the foot control can corrode and send a faulty signal to the machine. It is also possible that one of the needle stop sensors is out of place or faulty. These are the two most likely causes of this symptom, however it could be caused by a number of things including a faulty main PC Board. My recomendation would be to take your Activa to the nearest BERNINA dealer and repair center to get it checked out.

Check the bobbin area and make sure there's not a tangle of thread keeping the hook from turning.

Everything appears to wok except it does not HEAT

sounds like your high voltage fuse is blown if your microwave has one also you may have a high voltage problem like blown diode capacitor or transformer to check these you need the right test equipment remember microwaves run on very dangerous voltages please take extreme care if not confident call an expert

Stops sewing

Your machine is over heating. Sometimes it may also get stuck and just continue to sew and you will have to unplug it. Mine would also flash to just a blue screen. It had a pinched wire on the inside that caused it to over heat.

Wheel won't turn

The same thing happend to me with an older model (Singer XL 10). I have been sewing a decorating stitch and the machine stopped suddenly. Now I am not able to turn the hand wheel anymore like I should (I can move it a little bit, but the needle does not move up and down and the wheel is getting stuck). When I try to use the pedal the motor makes a horrible noise and stops. The needle is not moving up and down.

Is there a solution for that problem? I moved from Europe to Australia and have not used my machine since. Today is the first day, I was cleaning and oiling it and it first sewed perfectly. In case that there would be thread stuck somewhere, how could I possibly clean that? I already took off the plastic from the head, but I can not see where the problem is.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Best regards,
