Taking TV from UK to Australia

Hi,

I've bought teh Philips 37PF5521D in London and I am now moving to Australia (Brisbane). I believe that PAL I, used in the UK, is 625 lines, UHF PAL G is 625 lines UHF but with a different audio frequency.

Can I get my TV to work in Australia? Is there a setting on my TV? Is there a converter I can buy?

regards
Denise

The TV has a setting for Australia in the Digital setup menu, so there shouldn't be a problem.

The mains voltage in Australia is 240V - 50Hz, so you should only need to change the mains lead.

If you decide to go ahead, when you set up the tv:

Switch on tv.

Press and hold "MENU" on the side of the tv.

Menu will appear on-screen.

Continue to hold until menu clears.

Wait.

TV will reset to factory settings, allowing you to re-tune the tv.

Power board for 37pf5521d

hello!
You don't need to replace power supply in most cases. If you can to the board itself, it buried deep under metal shield, up side down, remove it from the set by unscrewing 6 machine screws, unplugging few plastic connectors. Be careful, connectors are fragile, gently move those in every direction, while pulling out male part of connectors. You will find at least 1 "bloated" electrolytic capacitor, remove and replace those. It's good have "in circuit" capacitor checker to determine quality of "hot side" of power supply capacitors. If you won't find and replace those, small: 1mf 10mf or 22mf, your set will start up, might even work fine for a while, then will quit for good! I've seen that happen! If you don't have capacitor gizmo, then replace all small electrolytic capacitors on "hot" side of power supply. "hot" is that side, what connects to main power in plug area, contents one large capacitor, I.C. chip diver, power mosfet, etc. worst case scenario: if you can't replace those parts yourself, remove the board and take to local TV repair shop. It won't cost you that much to do so, compare to complete TV repair.
Good luck,
Alex.

Hello bryanj_t,

Yes there are Sony tv's that does have both. When your looking for these tv's, look for tv's that are multisystem. Multisystem tv has both NTSC and PAL. Good luck

Cant get the new digital tv schannels

HELLO

There are differences in the frequencies used in NZ and Australia and this is why you cannot pick up ALL digital stations in Australia.

Example: NZ uses PAL B @ VHF and PAL G @ UHF
AUSTRALIA uses PAL B @ UHF and this is why the channels differ.

I would think the only way to get round this problem is to buy yourself a terrestrial set-top box or satellite box and then you will get all digital stations.

I have a motto: Always buy your TV in the country you live in. It would be like me taking a UK TV to France - the systems are different including the digital channels. Put this down to experience - you've learned the hard way!

ALL THE BEST!

you need to have an AC converter, also the tuner from the TV's may not work since they have another format (PAL) and the DVD players are a different region.

I beieve you have a TV standards prolem. According to the chart available at the website below, the UK is PAL I and the Aussies use PAL B/G. So if you bought a TV in Australia and are using the DVD Combo from the UK I think you are out of luck. A reputable TV repair shop would be able to answer further questions about this without charge.

edtwit, In my honest opinion, Philips does more than a campble job of adjusting to skybox's requirements. I would also suggest a adaptor if you find out that you need one of those too.
Overall it should be straight plug and play.
Please post what you do and how you did it. I look forward to your posts.
