1) remove the recoil housing
**NOTE: normally you DO NOT need to remove the rotor pulley or spring to replace the rope. This is the area that causes so many guys a lot of extra trouble

2) locate the string that is left and the hole it is threaded thru

3) determine how much string has broken off of the rope that came out

Note: if more than 1 inch is left, then the rope needs to be replaced

4) after rope is obtained, make sure both ends are melted to a point for easier threading thru handle and rope rotor

5) install the rope (with the handle installed on one end) thru the recoil housing and towards the rope rotor.

6) with the rotor free of tension, route the rope from the groove toward center and up thru the hole. Tie a knot in the end of the rope, leaving a 3/8" tail free.

7) wind the rotor in the direction of what the rope would pull (this will tighten the spring) until the spring is completely wound. remove 1/2 to 1 revolution, and then allow rope to wind onto the rotor until all rope is wound.

8) Pull the rope several times to position rope properly into rotor.
*note : there should be NO droop in the handle after released
If droop is evident, wind the rotor and rope 1 revolution tighter so there is no droop of handle when released

9) when unit is functioning proplerly, re-install housing onto unit

The starter pull cord on my gas trimmer will not pull.

Hi Mark
Perhaps a bit late now.... Just spotted this so I imagine it's all fixed by now.
But for others with this sort of problem.
Assuming the pull cord is not broken, stuck or tangled. Switch off or short plug to ground, for safety then remove the spark plug to allow the engine compression to escape. You should be able to turn the engine over really easy with the pull rope, otherwise the engine might be seized or the rotary pull mechanism jammed.
Also... can the shaft to the string line be rotated as in the crankshaft of the engine.
Good Luck

Jessie doll string in the pulled position

Sometimes you can get the string cord to release and retract back. Hold the doll firmly and gently pull the string out about an extra two or three millimetres (eighth of an inch) or as much as possible. Keep the string tight for a short while and then allow it to retract slowly. It may take a few attempts, the skill is in pulling the string that little extra distance, holding it for a few moments, then slowly releasing it again.

I have a 22in self propelled, how do i change the pull cord

Remove the motor shroud encasing the pull cord assy. What I do is turn the shroud over, leave the spring in it's slack position and gather up the two broken pieces of string. I lay then down in a circular motion on top of the recoil spool until the string is all coiled up, counting each loop made. That and once more is how many times you'll need to wind that spool up. When you are done winding, "round up" to make the hole in the spool meet up with the hole in the recoil housing. Once you're there, get a medium sized flat-head screwdriver and wedge it between the spool and the housing, hindering the spool from unwinding. Wedge it good. Melt the end of the new pull cord and begin outside the housing and feed the string thru the eyelet on the recoil housing. Keep feeding it ( recoil housing still upside down ) thru until you visibly see it pass thru the eyelet and into the hole of the spool. You may need to use a small pick to grab it and pull it home. Once it's out, it's not over. Pull enough string thru to tie a double-loop knot. When you're satisfied with the strength of the knot, reach down and grab the string, holding it tightly. Next reach in and pull the screwdriver loose. Nothing should move-you're holding the string. Hold the shroud with one hand and let the string slowly pay into the recoil spool. Bolt the shroud back on and go!

Bosch cannister vac: Cord is stuck--won't rewind

It probably is, these cords are usually 15-25' long ;-)
What you can asssume is that the cord is simply twisted upon itself and doubled up so cannot easily come out, and will not go in... therefore.
Pull gently on the cord and twist in a clockwise direction. Does the cord seem to get a bit longer? If not, or if it gets tighter, try counterclockwise. If you keep trying eventually it will loosen and you can fully extend the cord. Compare this to holding a piece of string between your hands by the thumb and index fingers. Hold one end still and twist the other 20 times (twisting the string). then relax the string between your hands. See how it immediately forms a loop? That is the problem with your cordreel too. There is a loop in there that we need to undo. Now pull a bit so you can still see the loop, and then start untwisting to see what happens. You can also do this with a YoYo ;-)

Be patient, observe, sensitize your tactile senses and see if you can figure out which direction loosens your cord - and get it out ;-)

Good Luck
Hopefully you wont have to take it all apart. that cordreel spring is very strong. Be careful if you do go in there.
