Re: laptop

Yes your computer will run faster if you clear up some space on your c drive . The reason for this is the processor can only think fast when there is enough room for processes to be used if you have very little space left it has to search through all thst data to find the thing you want to use ! If you have a DVD burner on your lap top burn the movies to DVD and keep your c drive clear of movies and music they take up more room then most programs If you dont get one or get an external hard drive and keep your movies on that .Hope this helps...Dean

I have 29ltd love the radio i'm over the road truck. I reasonnly replace my old steel whip center load antenna put 4' k40 top load one.ran new coax 18' grey. I get the red ( ant) light comes on...

Check SWR with a meter, if its 1.1 to 1.5 then its fine no matter what the light says. The light can be adjusted inside to not light up until its very high(Its adjustable with a Variable knob inside) Get a Cb shop to check it out. I'd go for LIL Wilson 500 or 1000 antennas, I hear they are superb.

Cobra 19 ultra III...have everything hooked up(havent used a SWR METER YET) but when I have the squelch on just a bit, it shows all the channels as busy? What do i do?

Right, the meters will show a signal nomatter what posistion the knob is .... put it counterclockwise just about the noise level.. I leave it fully counterclockwise so i can hear further... BUT get a swr meter and check it asap before talking on it.. Any cb shop should check the swr's for FREE, we do...

The ant light is turning on when i key the mic

your antenna is mismatched and your frying the radio finals , re adjust the antenna to a match of a ratio of 1 to 1.5 for the optimum output of your radio ( I used to be a chicken bander before I became a Ham operator)

Not enough watts

All he is asking for is this...

Find VR4. Its near the big transformer. Turn it all the way to the left. That is your AMC. that will turn your modulation all the way up.

If you have a power meter you can raise your dead key, or carrier signal as raising the modulation only effects your swing.

If you don't have power meter, then don't mess with it. Increasing the modulation will be a big improvement.

If you do have a power meter then here is what you do. Find L12 near the final, is near the heat sink in the little space near the transistor. that is your final. Turn this out, to the left, with the radio keyed until the needle stops moving up. don't turn it out any more.

***** NOTE IMPORTANT *******

Do not do this with no antenna hooked up, or without a dummy load. You will blow up your final. You can never key the radio with out a 50 ohm load on the radio.

You can make a simple dummy load to do this inside instead of out in your vehicle. Take a CB coax and 5 150 ohm resistors. Hook the 3 ends of the resistors together and solder them, and do the same with the other side. then solder on end to the center piece of a coax, and then to the out side piece. that will give you a 50 ohm load when you connect it to the radio. If the Ant light goes on, stop right away you did something wrong.

You will also need a power supply. If you have an old computer, you can use the power supply from it to power the radio. Yellow wire on one of the power supply ends to the red wire, and the black can go to either of the black wires.

If you are not sure, just increase the modulation with VR4. that will make the radio swing to about 20 - 25 watts.

Low watts out putt

I do not know if that is the case. If it is just the finals, I don't belive they would not be that expensive. I can do some research and see. Off the top of my head, I am unsure of which final they have. You can send me a reply at I drive truck full time and run my cb shop part time. If you are along one of my loads, I can stop off and take a look at the radio.

THE battery MUST be charged with the correct charger. Assuming that is the case new batteries need to be cycled a few times before they come good...Also you MUST use the exact same spec battery in mAH. if you are using ni-cads they need to be fully discharged to a safe low level before recharging as they suffer from memory type the need to be charge cycled a few times before they come good. There are problems with all types of rechargable batteries...Makers have still not reached perfection..never leave a radio always connected
to the ac line , this will stagnate the battery/cells causing problems you must use your device on battery power in order to cycle the same. This is the main reason why laptop batteries have a short life.

Catching about 3 pounds of noise!

Good Evening,
I would think the noise you are picking up is atmospheric noise ( space noise as some of them call it ) or also known as sun spot noise ( skip ). Since we are in a downward skip pattern with the sun spots the atmosperic niose remains a bit higher than we may like. When the niose comes in, it appears as a static niose, so if this is the niose you are experiancing, I assume this should quiet a bit as time goes along for the next few years. ( until skip conditions start on an upswing again ) This happens in a cycle every 7 to 11 years on a normal basis. One thing you can do is purchase a noise chopper devise. They sell for between 20 and 30 dollars and can be switched to a low chop ( filter ) or a high chop ( filter ). You need to know that if you use one of these devises to illimenate noise, it that you also illimanate signal. ( you receive less ). I hope in some way this answer has helped. If I can be of any more assistance, please feel free to email me at this address or a personal email at or call my shop at 307-266-4675, Mod- Fri 9AM-3PM.
