The green center light flashes when the drive is inaccessible for reading.

Examples:
You open or close the tray
The drive is disconnected
The drive is totally burnt out

The most likely cause of this problem is that the cable somehow came loose that connects the DVD drive to the motherboard. Carefully take apart the box, and reseat the cable. If the cable was NOT loose, you may need a new drive.

This could be the drive belt slipping, there are guides on youtube on how to change/clean this without voiding your warranty,
or it is a worn motor issue, when the motor becomes worn it cannot disengage the magnet, a way to check if this is the problem is to lay your console flat, turn it on, when it says open tray give it a firm rap with your knuckles a few times about where the center of the disk will be, if the draw opens its a motor fault, if you want to play the game and the game won't load, give it a rap in the same place until it does.
If this is the problem your console will need opening and the motor/drive will need replacing.
If this works, don't forget to thumbs up, to help others.

On my xbox 360 when i'm playing a game then suddenly directs me to the desk top and when i shut my xbox 360 off the power button flashes green every few seconds why is this happening ?

It sounds like a DVD drive error. When the center light inside the "ring of light" blinks rapidly it thinks the DVD drive is either open or not connected. You can buy a new DVD drive off Ebay for a decent price or take it to a professional shop. When changing the DVD drive you have to also put the original PCB from the old drive onto the new one or it will not play games. It will play DVD's all day but no games. There is a bit of soldering involved. If your not confident you can make the repair check out this site for help. www.jbgaming.com they do good work and are very reasonable.

Got a green light in the centre and bottom rt is red, can`t do a thing with it,any ideas?

When only 1 of the 4 green lights that are located around the start button flashes red and the screen flashes an error code number, it means that you've got the Xbox 360 1 red light message.

If you get the Xbox 360 1 red light message, it means that the problem is either with the DVD drive, or with the hard drive.

Fortunately, the Xbox 360 1 red light message is not something that you should worry about. In order to identify which of the two drives the Xbox 360 1 red light messages is referring to, just look the code number that the screen displays. DVD drive errors are identified with the codes E64, E65 and E66, whereas hard drive errors are identified with codes E67, E69 and E79.

once you have found out if its the hard drive or the dvd drive then this is the part that needs replacing.
you will either need to get someone to do it for you or if you have some idea what you are doing then it is something you can do yourself, always check to see if you have any warranty left and if you do take it back if not then you will need to pay someone to do the work for you.

if you are doing it yourself then take it from me its not easy taking the case off let alone changing the parts so if you are going to do it yourself use google and fine an xbox 360 repair guide and this will then give you step by step instructions on taking the case off and removing any parts you need to remove

My x box will play cd's and dvd's but not games. do you know what i can do to fix that. when i put in a game it says to put disc in an x box 360 console.

Here's how:

1. Carefully open the Xbox by removing the torx screws and then releasing the clips that hold the case together. The clips and molding pieces all come off easily; pry them open carefully.

2. Load the flash firmware disc into the DVD drive and power off the Xbox.
3. Disconnect the DVD drive from the SATA cable and note the brand of drive used in your Xbox. Currently Microsoft uses Hitachi, Phillips and Toshiba DVD drives in the Xbox 360. Only the Toshiba and Hitachi drives have firmware updates.

4. Connect the DVD drive to your PC with a cross-wired SATA cable interfaced to a compatible SATA port. Confirm that the video cable is connected to the Xbox so that it won't turn off during the flash process.

5. Hold the two loose wires of the cross-wired cable together and press the "Start" button on the Xbox. Separate the wires immediately when the green light begins to flash on the front of the Xbox. The light will begin to flash quickly and the drive will begin to spin as it enters mode "B."

6. Turn the PC on and allow it to fully boot from the DVD drive. If Windows appears to fail the boot, eject the DVD and it will finish booting. You've successfully flashed the drive.
7. Reassemble the Xbox and enjoy playing the backup of your favorite game. Sources: http://www.ehow.com/how_2316522_flash-xbox-dvd-drive.html

The center light on the power button flashes none stop, the door wont open properly and wont load the game up to play and now the door wont open... what seem to be the problem in your guess

The console is not recognizing the DVD drive. Did you change it recently? If so you must swap the PCB from your original drive into the replacement drive in order for it to be recognized.

My Tray Door popped open after two red lights shut down console and won't close!

Here is a great page that has a step by step process for opening your unit. (they also sell parts and mod equipment)

http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/repair/Xbox-360-Disassembly.htm

You may need a new drive, but I doubt it. After you get the Xbox open, peel off the silver tape thats on the bottom front of the DVD player, unplug the 2 connections, and lift it out. Turn the player upside down and remove the 4 screws, flip it back over and make sure that the try is lined up correctly with the mechinism.

I hope this helps. Good luck and happy gaming!!
