Difficult to say, not knowing exactly what machine you have, however, I have found a generic picture and description of how it works and where to find it. See if this is helpful, if after getting it and you find that for some reason this does not apply to your situation, get back to me and I'll see if I can better assist!

The clutch (AP4009131) comes with a good set of instructions on how to properly complete the repair. Not to difficult at all. If you don't want to go out and purchase one, you may get the instructions out of the packet and copy them, Aside from that, I have copied a link that gives step by step proceedures on the FAV series, however it is a 9800 rather than a 6800, but you will get the jist, it is very simular, I have read thru and find this to be helpful info, should be everything you need to get to your clutch...step by step.. Good Luck!

On my Kenmore I had to pull the knob out to release the clutch, then push it bak in. I don't know if that is the same for you. You can try it, if it doesn;t move, it was worth a try. You could just take to Sears, sewing machine department and ask the salesperson what to do, they should help you for free, our Sears is pretty good about such matters.

Washing machine wont spin

If the machine has a sudden power glitch you must reset it.
Here is the secret:
To Reset the Inverter Board: Machine off: Unplug the machine for one minute. Plug back in and raise and lower the lid six times within 12 seconds.
If you still have nothing or if that puppy is dead in the water, you have a open transorber. The part you would need is wh49X1004.
What does a transorber do? It is a line voltage filter which protects the delicate circuits in these crappy new fangled electronics. Just thought you would like to know. I have the service manual in a printable version if you want it. Let me know.

You need to check this part of you machine:

Test the lid switch
Test the timer control
Test the centrifugal switch
Test the water level switch
Inspect the motor coupler
Inspect the drive belt(belt drive only)
Inspect under the washer for soot (clutch)
Test the motor
Inspect the pulley

Maytag FAV6800AW won't spin. COuld this be the

Hello leaweber,

Yes most times it is a Clutch malfunction . Is the machine failing with “dc” and or “UC” unbalance error codes in spin cycle? If you are you may have a Clutch malfunction or Tub Displacement Sensor failure more likely a Clutch issue.

You can do a quick TDS sensor check thru the lid just follow this from the Service Manual. If you machine will pass the TDS check the next step would be to remove the clutch from the machine and inspect as I describe in this post.

Tub Displacement Sensor check from the SM slightly modified;

Tub Displacement Sensor Diagnostics check. This test is done with the washer lid raised see page 19 for the details.

It is possible the Tub Displacement Sensor may have failed try this check which is in the Troubleshooting guide stored in your washer console or refer to the SM.

a. Enter the Service Mode by pressing and holding the Enviro Plus and Spin Only keys for three seconds or the display reads “00”

b. Press the Super Wash key display reads “in”…something like that.

c. Press Delicates the Display will show “UC” (Unbalance Closed).

d. Push tub to the back right corner of the machine the display should change to “UO” (Unbalance open). Release tub and the display will show “UC” (Unbalance Closed).

e. Press Hand Wash.

f. Pull tub to the front left corner while pushing the tub down the display should change to “UO” (Unbalance open). Release tub and the display will show “UC” (Unbalance Closed).

If you get these results your TDS sensor should be just fine. Time to look at a clutch repair/replacement. Let me know if you need help…. Rich aka dh1200s

Wbsr3140dw will not agitate

Hi there,

There are 2 region of having this problem -

First of all you can check the Lid switch -
If the lid switch is defective, the washing machine may not agitate or function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washing machine to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

then you check the Clutch -
If your washer was made by GE, it may use a clutch for agitating the clothes. As the clutch wears out, it may prevent the washer from agitating well or at all. If the clutch is worn, you need to replace it.

Thanks

If it’s a FAV6800AW or FAV8900AW and you want to DIY a fix take a look at this post and see if you or someone you know has some very basic mechanical skills and can do a clutch replacement or roller clutch bearing re-lube. The dc/UC unbalance errors are a very common failure issue with the FAV6800AW/FAV9800AW clutch.

I have put together a step by step process to perform a clutch replacement process, this repair will get your $1000 machine back in service with a $50 dollar clutch replacement. Worse case you can give the repair person some facts and maybe control cost and speed to repair. I believe you will find you will pay $300 - $400 to have it repaired.

If you pay more than $50 dollars for the clutch you are throwing money away. Clothes Washer Clutch - 25001169

You can try this test just to rule out the TDS as the failure point almost all the time dc/UC unbalance errors are related to clutch issues with this machine model.
Tub Displacement Sensor Diagnostics check.
It is possible the Tub Displacement Sensor may have failed try this check which is in the Troubleshooting guide stored in your washer console or refer to the SM.
Enter the Service Mode by pressing and holding the Enviro Plus and Spin Only keys for three seconds or the display reads “00”

Press the Super Wash key display reads “in”…something like that.

Press Delicates the Display will show “UC” (Unbalance Closed).

Push tub to the back right corner of the machine the display should change to “UO” (Unbalance open). Release tub and the display will show “UC” (Unbalance Closed).

Press Hand Wash.

Pull tub to the front left corner while pushing the tub down the display should change to “UO” (Unbalance open). If you get these results your Tub Displacement sensor should be OK and I believe it’s not the component failure producing dc/UC errors in spin cycle. I would remove the clutch for inspection and re-lube. There is a more technical troubleshooting method to check Tub Displacement Sensor in the Troubleshooting guide and Service manual.

We can turn on the drain pump in Service Mode to pump out excess water, let me know if you need help with that. The link I have in this post will send you to the Service Manual on this site in PDF format .

I believe a lot of folks toss this $1K machine when a $50 dollar clutch replacement or an even cheaper a Oneway roller clutch bearing clean up (if the bearings are rust free) will get the machine back in service.
Post back if you decide to DIY the fix and need help.

Good luck… Rich

Washes but won't spin or drain completely unless no clothes in

Hello screenman780
I will assume you are taking dc or UC errors to the display in spin cycle. Just need the first two digits of your machine serial number, ie. 10,12,16 etc. That information is located on the right back side of the machine console. If you are taking those errors I recommend removing the clutch inspecting the clutch roller bearings and clutch spring. There is a test to perform for the Tub Displacement Sensor that we could check first but 10 times out of 10… so far it’s the clutch. Most of the time a cleanup with WD-40 and re-lube of the clutch bearings with some light bearing grease will get you back in service. If the clutch bearings are rusted up beyond clean up or the clutch spring is broken then a clutch replacement will be required. I recommend this clutch as a replacement. I put that clutch in my machine (1st two digits of my s/n are 16) just to make sure it would work, my original clutch was cleaned up with WD-40 alone and worked as the day delivered on 7/05. Take a look and read thru the post in the link below. In that post I go thru a step by step process to replace the clutch (comment of 3/18). I can also offer some phone support no charge; I'm a DIY'er owner of the machine. I believe the repair cost (from previous post on this forum) to replace the clutch and labor will be around $300 if you don't DIY the repair/maintenance for this issue. Most of the clutch malfunctions are resolved with the clutch maintenance. Anyone can do this with only basic mechanical skill sets. If you can change the spark plug on a lawnmower you can deal with this, the work area is just tight. Here are some folks that had positive results with this maintenance. Unfortunately I feel many of these machines end up at the curb for bulk trash pickup when a $10 fix for some WD-40 a squirt of bearing grease or worse case a $50-$60 new clutch replacement. Good Luck and let me know if you need additional support, Rich.
