Hello.

Usually the Fn + F11 or Fn + F8 will get you to the Recovery Partition. Try several times to access.

Hope this helps.

I have a dell computer and I need to restore it then clean it

Dell has a hidden restore partition to restore the operating system back to factory. You will lose all your programs and data. Access usually is by pressing an F key when booting, see your manual that came with the computer. Clean: take it outside and blow it out with a vacuum cleaner with reversed air flow (blows out) and a crevice tool. Works great.

Many years ago, Dell started shipping computers with a small Dell Utility partition hidden at the front of the hard disk, followed by the main (Windows operating system) partition. Beginning around July 2004, select Dell computers in the Dimension and Inspiron model lines began shipping with a third partition hidden at the end of the hard disk. This third partition contains the "Dell PC Restore by Symantec" utility--colloquially referred to as DSR ("Dell System Restore"). This is a utility that can be used to return a computer to its "as shipped" state, with the XP operating system restored to the condition it was in when the user first unpacked the computer from the box. Pressing the right keys when the computer is starting up will boot this DSR partition.

Need a key-stroke combination to access the recovery partition.

Hey there, After doing some googling it seems that the default key for dell PCs to access the recovery partition is pressing CTRL+F11 while your computer is booting up.

I hope I was able to help.

I cant reboot my dell inspiron530s to the factory settings? i ve try every thing,Ctrl+F11 and it wont work

Many manufacturer's (especially Dell) have a habit of creating a hidden partition on your local drive which holds everything you need to put your computer back to day zero. Access to this is acheived either through a combination of key presses (this will show up when booting the computer as a message stating "press xx to repair your computer") or through the original cd/dvd rom that came with your new system.
You can obtain the original discs through dell from their website. You can obtain information and help through the dell forums.

My Dell Inspiron 530, works fine once its powered up, but it take three attempts for the computer to boot on. I have taken the following steps. Checked that all fans are operational, they are. I have...

OK, here is what dell says:

BIOS checksum failure. Possible motherboard failure.

Try re-seating your memory modules and see if the beep code disappears

Also, Try using the Dell Diagnostics which is located on a hidden diagnostic utility partition on your hard drive or on the Drivers and Utilities Cd that came with your computer.

  1. Ensure that the computer is connected to an electrical outlet that is known to be working properly.

  2. Turn on (or restart) your computer.

  3. When the DELL™ logo appears, press <F12> immediately. Select Boot to Utility Partition from the boot menu and press <Enter>.
Press any key to start the Dell Diagnostics from the diagnostics utility partition on your hard drive.

Reloaded xp pro on dell lap and then the blue screen of death and now nothing except error loading os Please if you can help I know very little about computers so bear with me...

Just about every prebuilt system. Dell, HP, Compaq, e-Machine ECT.
Place a small hidden partition at the front of the primary hard disk drive.
This partition is about 2MB to 4MB in size. Within this hidden partition are drivers. If you need to reinstall your operating system you will need to use the manufactures restore CD's. On the other hand if you are trying to install another operating system like, (An upgrade or a full install of another OS), though it may appear windows is installing it is not. Hence the blue screen. Once you delete this hidden partition you can install or reinstall the operating system of your choice. There are two ways around this. 1.) Download and run a program called, Darik's Boot and Nuke for CD and DVD 1.07. This allows you to create a bootable CD or bootable floppy disk. Download link below;
http://download.cnet.com/Darik-s-Boot-and-Nuke-for-CD-and-DVD/3000-2094_4-10151762.html
This program will remove/delete everything including hidden partitions.
This program has been updated so you can remove the hidden partition without harming your current windows.
Once completed you will be free to install any operating system.
2.) Run Darik's Boot and Nuke to remove the small hiddion partiton.
Boot to your windows CD. Carefully read the screens that come up. If you have personal data in your operating system and don't want to loose that data than follow these instruction. During the install of windows, you will come to a screen where windows will show you the partitions on your drive. If your drive has a min of 50 to 60GB of free space you can create another partition within the free space and install windows fresh. Once windowsw has been installed and updated you can now copy and past all your personal data to the new windows.
When finished, click Sart, Run and type " diskmgmt.msc " and click ok. In windows disk managment you can now delete your old windows partition. If you need help using diskmgmt.msc just open the link below;

HOW DO I RESERT TO FACTORY SETTING MY DELL DESK TOP

To reset the bios, hit F2 during POST and you can reset the defaults in there.

For Windows, insert your Windows CD/DVD and re-install windows by hitting any key when the prompt comes up and then following the directions on screen. Make sure you use the key on your computer when it asks for it after it reboots.
