Whem I turn on my camera I have a lens error msg and the camera shuts down. camera has been sent to Ricoh they say they cannot repair must replace insides at a cost of more the the camera no solution

I have the same problem. Lens Error. I called Canon. I bought this October 25, 2008 and since this is within a year, it is under warranty. They say to mail back the camera and they will fix or replace it. They need my receipt of when I bought it. I bought it online so went to there web site sales history and printed that statement. Canon says to pack it with packing material in a box so that it does not get damaged more. I hope they fix this free of charge or replace it. I just read of how so many others see this lens error and really hope this is resolved.

I have a casio exilim EX-Z75 when my friend dropped the camera the lens stayed out stuck, then when you turn it on it says "retry power on" so i tried it and it said "lens error" i am currently trying to buy a lens for mine so i can get it working again i'm still under warrenty but they told me if they fix it and see evidence of it being dropped i will be charged for it getting fixed, so i thought it was better for me to find a cheap lens or faulty camera and do it myself.
when it states lens error and retry power on something in your lens has shifted and might not go back into place, so best to get your camera fixed under warrenty buy a new camera or try find a new lens for it......

I had the "lens error" problem with a Nikon Coolpix S2 camera. I called Nikon customer support and they suggested taking out the SD card and turning on the camera without an SD card inserted. That fixed the problem!! Oddly after putting the SD card back in it was still fine. The support person suggested formatting my SD card through the camera's setup menu - just to be safe. She also said sometimes there is a "short" with the SD card and that's the whole problem. However - she seemed just as shocked as I was when this actually worked, so I don't know if it will help everyone - good luck!
