Maxtor OneTouch 4 Mini 120GB

I just bought this drive last night along with a 4 port USB hub. I know both of them have internal software to run each one. I am not sure that either of the run software got installed to my laptop. Now when I connect them there is no prompt that comes up. It it a one time deal? What can I do to get the prompt to install the external hard drive software?? Please help me... I am not a computer whiz (obviously) so please speak in non-techi terms.
Thanks, Pete

Go to the maxtor website and request the drivers. They will email a link for the download. Download and install.

If you install any application then uninstall it.

then restart the PC and reconnect it.

it will prompt for driver if it need.
many plug n play devices dont need a driver.
when it promp then select the location of the driver through wizard which will appear when you connect it.

If the computer doesn't recognize the drive you must:

first unplug new drive from computer and set on left side of keyboard.

second- reinstall windoes and any programs you had on the computer EXCEPT any audio or graphic-intensive programs- like photoshop or real player.

Reboot 7 times.

Switch drive over to RIGHT side of keyboard.

Reboot 1 (one) time.

your drive should now work perfectly.

Our MAXTOR Onetouch 4 mini is not recognized by computer. Can your software recover the data?

could be several issues to cause this fault, make sure your usb port is usb 2.0, replace the usb cable, take the unit apart and look for loose conections, try the drive in another caddy, or try another drive in the maxtor caddy. You will probably be able to remove the drive from the caddy and connect it into your computer if you have a tower and the correct connections.

Hi there i hav ea maxtor onetouch 4 mini 120 gb.

Remove the hard drive from the Maxtor case, purchase an USB hard drive adapter case, and install the hard drive inside this case. Then you can connect this to the computer's USB port and if the hard drive is OK then this computer will detect it as an external USB hard drive, then you can open the folders and files and back them up.

How to Connect Maxtor OneTouch 4 Mini 320Gb to PC

I have one as well running along with a PC. PCs and Macs are formatted differently. Go to and create a search for reformatting from a Mac to a PC with your Operating System in the search as well. Should have no problems after doing that. It will tell you and or show you where and how to reformat.

Vista Home Premuim Use with Maxtor onetouch

Software downloads are available from the Seagate support site. Here is a link to the download page for Maxtor OneTouch III family. It should provide the latest version of all software that came with the new unit, including "Updated software to run in Windows Vista. Also can be used in case the original software that was preloaded on the drive has been erased."

Hope it helps!

Maxtor OneTouch lll Mini 120 GB

If your using a USB hub, unplug another device (i.e printer or scanner, fax, etc.). Plug in your One Touch. Then turn off your pc and turn it back on. This should work.
If you use a alot of USB devices, you may need to get a USB Power Hub.
You can try an plug in the One Touch straight to the pc and unpluging all other usb device except the keyboard and mouse.
Let me know if this helps. You also may need to move the ac power to another outlet.
