If Norton is Working , before getting rid of Norton, reinstall Acrobat Reader.

Another solution is temporarily install a pdf reader like Foxit Reader.
That will open PDF.

If that does not work you have to do the following:

Use start button and find system restore on:

Start>Program>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore.

Start System Restore.

Chose a restore date before installing Norton.

Reinstall Acrobat reader.

Reinstall Norton.

Use System Restore to Undo Changes
Adobe Acrobat Reader
Foxit Software - Foxit Reader 3.0 for Windows

Is this happen intermittently or on all .pdf files?

This message is sometimes offered, if you have a corrupted file or sometimes you need a password to access that .pdf file and you enter a wrong password.

The best example - When you receive your credit card e statement, it would ask for a password to open it. If you enter a wrong password, you might receive that.

If this is an error on a particular website, you could seek administrator of that website. If you receive this message on all files then you are left with 2 options :-

1) Configure Acrobat Reader
2) Save file to harddrive and then open it.

Here is the link for more information for both options:

Clear the temporary files and cache and then try to open it.

Let me know, if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

    Thanks for your response!!

You could check that by keeping Norton disabled. If the problem would be resolved then we need to look for any update patch unless this is nothing to do with Done on .pdf files.

a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US.
click here to Talk to a Technician (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

As a test, turn off your firewall. Also try resetting your browser settings. In Internet Options, Connections tab, Settings, make sure nothing is checked.

If not using a Windows machine with IE, please post more information.

Google Chrome basically wont work.

You need to make sure you've fully downloaded it.
Just to make sure here's the link where I recently downloaded it from -
Download it after you've done that restart your computer. Just to be sure it's fully downloaded. Once you've restarted your computer and logged back in.....
  1. Simply click on "start"
  2. Then click on "Control Panel"
  3. Once your on control panel go onto "network and internet"
  4. Then click on "internet options"
  5. Then on the tab named "programs"
  6. Then on the internet programs section at the bottom click "set programs"
  7. A new window should open called "default programs"
  8. Click on the top option "set your default programs" (It should take a while to load)
  9. Click on "Google Chrome" If it appears. If it doesn't appear don't worry. It'll still be the same.
  10. Open your "google chrome" browser up. (even if it doesn't work(but make sure your laptop or computer is connected to the internet))
  11. Click on the tools option on the page which is the spanner icon at the top right of the page.
  12. Click on options (eleventh option down)
  13. At the bottom of the Google Chrome Options page they should be a buttom saying "Make google chrome my default browser" Click on that.
  14. Keep on that page click on the tab called "under the bonnet"
  15. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, make sure the bottom options on "check for sever certificate revocation"

It then should work
Hope I helped Dr Reed

Hello marchits2002, please have a look in your Startup and disable the filename you stated above from running on startup.

To do this - Press Windows Key + R (to open the Run Dialog), then type MSCONFIG.EXE and press Enter.

You can now see the fourth tab called Startup, have a look at the list and uncheck any startup items you don't find necessary.

Apply the changes and restart computer. Done.

When i am on facebook i do not see my chat can i find it?

On the bottom right of the screen you will see the number of people online. Click on it, click on a name and a chat window will appear. That chat window will be kept next to the number of friends online tab at the bottom right. As you open more chat windows, they will appear at the bottom right, building-up towards the bottom left.

If someone sends you a message, a tab will appear flashing at the bottom

SonicStage won't open

I don't know if this will help but have you tried Sony's website? There is a security update for Sonic Stage 4.3 that they say must be installed in order to make the program run properly. Go to Sony USA and type in minidisc players in the search window. Then click on the link for minidisc players. When that window opens type in your model number and the page displaying that particular model should open. There you should find the latest software updates. I downloaded Sonic Stage 4.3 along with all of the needed updates from Sony's site and it works just fine for me. You may have to uninstall your current software and reinstall it after installing the security update as the installation instructions on the website said that the installation must be done in that order or the Sonic Stage software may not work properly. Sony also offers email tech support.
Good luck.

When I try to open a pdf file, the icon is different and does not open in Adobe, but in MS Word 2007, which of course is does not open properly. This computer (Gateway M6752 laptop)has Vista Home Premium,...

Hey mrbickham,

In some instances, updating existing software or installing new programs onto your computer can cause issues such as what you have encountered. Fortunately, re-associating .PDF files with Adobe Acrobat Reader instead of MS Word 2007 may be all that you need to do. Most versions of Windows allow users to select the program they want to use to open any given file type, and can usually be done by following the steps I’ve provided below.

1) Right-click on the .PDF file icon.

2) Choose "Open With" from the menu that appears.

3) When you highlight the “Open With” option a submenu should appear. Click on the link in this menu that says “Choose Program.”

4) Another window should then open, providing a list of the available programs on your computer. Choose Adobe Acrobat Reader from the menu and check the box next to it.

5) At the bottom of the page there should also be an option that says something similar to "Always use this program to open this file type." Make sure that this option is enabled.

6) Click "OK."

Hope this helps you out.

Go Ahead. Use Us.
