Dear Sea Breeze- The model #, I believe, is 253.57189601 (it was on the wall near the inside top of the refrigerator)Thanks jrez

  • jrez769 Nov 14, 2009

Thank you for your suggestions, I will have my husband look at it tomorrow. It's only a few years old!!

  • jrez769 Nov 14, 2009

Hi. Our refrigerator is the model you mention, 25357189601. I looked in the back and only saw one fan. I checked the compressor, which I guess is the big black cylinder in the back and it is warm to the touch, but not hot. What do I do next?

  • jrez769 Nov 14, 2009

Also, there is no cold air coming into freezer or refrigerator.

  • jrez769 Nov 16, 2009

Sea Breeze- Thank you for all your help. We chickened out and called a repairman as it seemed beyond our expertise. It was a three in one part, I forgot the name of it. Even the repairman was embarrassed at the price of the part--$379!! (No service charge)He did say if the compressor failed, which it probably won't, they would subtract what we paid for the repair from the cost of the compressor. Although I think if the compressor fails, we bought a lemon...Thank you for all your help

That sounds like the compressor start capacitor, relay or overload. It could even be the defrost timer or part of the defrost Adaptive Defrost Control. I will need the Sear Kenmore model number. I will need you to communicate with me and look around the door of the fresh food section for a model number. Sears uses a different model number when they sell a Maytag, Whirlpool or any Brand nam. Their number after changing would look like this 231.65489 near floor behind door seal and near kick plate.I will help you if you let me know, Thanks Sea Breeze

Will you be able to check some areas for me or are you confident enough to check some areas. Beginning inside the refrigerator compartment there is a air damper opened and closed by the controls. Your model also has an adaptive defrost that is mst likely the cause and it's located inside the fresh food compartment behind the control panel. The part number is 241736601 and when things go wrong with it the refrigerator starts doing strange things. For example the thermostat that controls the temperature between freezer and fresh food section can be affected, compressor, fans defrost heater allmost anything that matter is wired to that box. ADC control photo below. Photo of Kenmore Control Panel Model 25357189601 I need you to see if compressor is overheating and that both fans ar running below refrigerator and inside the freezer and tell me your findings. Sea Breeze

#23 115 and 21A are my focus at this time but I don't want the compressor overheating so no damage will happen

Was the fan blowing warm air or running inside the freezer. And are you comfortable with working on the refrigerator yourself? If compressor is warm tells me it may have run and stopped and hot would be trying to start and cannot. I need someone with a multimeter asap to help do the part I would do if I was there. You should hear a fan running in the back of freezer and I need someone to do some electrical testing. appliancepartsse@yahoo.com Let me know, I can't be sure until someone can do those things. I am trying to prevent you from having to spend an arm and a leg and be safe about it also, Thanks, I expect to hear from you 864-812-1887, Sea Breeze

If the compressor was too hot that would tell me it was trying to restart. (It was Not) But the peoblem still leads me to believe the Adaptive Drfrost Control or the thermostat control has failed. Most likely the ADC. If you need me I at your service, SEA BREEZE TIP'S Looking forward to seeing you, Sea Breeze

Thank You for the Rate! I assume you are saying a 3N1 Start Relay, Capacitor, and Overload. Anyway if that is what it was, the rate is fine with me Thank You Again, Sea Breeze

Kenmore elite 596 73503201 no cooling in top compartment

if the freezer is getting cold the problem is due to the cold air from the freezer not getting into the refrigerator. There are several things that can cause this problem. The coils in the freezer icing up and not defrosting properly is one of the things that can cause the refrigerator not to get cold enough. Another problem is the fan that blows the cold air from the freezer compartment into the refrigerator, not working. When the compressor is running open the refrigerator's door and push the switch that makes the light go out. You should hear the fan blowing the cold air from the freezer into the refrigerator, when this switch is pushed in. If the fan is working then you will need to find what is blocking the air flow. Iced up coils are a common problem. The icing problem can be due to a defective defrost timer or something defective in the defrost circuit. Click here for more information. Check for these problems and let me know what you have found.
