GoGear is not recognized by PC

I have a GoGear 4G, model SA1VBE04KX/78, and i have a problem when connecting it to my PC.

He starts normally, but, when I connect, he turns off instantly, and the PC does not recognize (code 10). I've tried restarting the PC, uninstalling all the softwares pertinent to the MP4, reinstalled the driver, but the problem still does no go away. Can someone help?

The patch is worthless:
Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.
If this method does not work, get the product replaced. I usually do not admit this, but I work for Ph-----. Some computers cannot handle certain models. For instance, I love the SA5125 - it works for me, but I was personally unable to get an SA4111 working for me, and I work for the company. If the method mentioned does not work, it is hopeless.

Uninstall and then reinstall the software from the CD - this is the fix suggested by both the manufacturer and Microsoft for Code 10 errors.

i don't know if this is the same for everyone but i think i just fixed mine by formatting it. there should be an icon above the device on windows media player which if you scroll over it says format storage media. i clicked it and formatted and it seems to have transferred the music ok.

Code 10 errors can be resolved by completely uninstalling the Philips Device Manager and other software that came with the GoGear installation CD, and then reinstalling the clean version of the software from the Philips website.  Then running a Repair. The version of the Device Manager that is on the installation CD is not the same version as the one from the website.
Recovery Mode for Philips' GoGear
Open the Philips Device Manager and click on the “Repair” tab.  Then click on the “Repair” button to start the repair process.  Most of the time, when your player is in that state, the Device Manager will not recognize that your GoGear is plugged in.  If this is the case: Disconnect the player from the PC, and make sure the mp3 player is turned off. Hold in the volume + button on the mp3 player, and reconnect the player to your pc while holding in the volume + button. Continue holding the volume + for 10-15 seconds until a "Found New Hardware Wizard" pops up. It should recover your device if there isn't anything internally wrong with the player. Warning: this procedure will result in your songs being erased off the player, so they will have to be reloaded.

Philips GoGear Firmware Upgrade
You need to get the latest firmware upgrade from the Philips website:
1. Go to www.philips.com/support
2. Enter your country/language
3. Enter your model # SA6045 or whatever
4. Click on the link for your exact model # (the one w/o the "B" in it)
5. Click on "Software & Drivers"
6. Download the updated "Device/Firmware Manager"
7. Once installed, open the Philips Device Manager
8. Click on the "Update" tab, then the "Update" button (with your mp3 player connected to the computer, of course)
9. Your Mp3 players firmware will update automatically
If you do not have the latest version of the Philips Device Manager installed (the latest is the version from the Philips website), then clicking the "Update" button will give you a false positive saying "The firmware on your device is already up to date."

What should I do if my player is not recognized by my PC?

Reset it. Use a pen tip in the RESET hole on the side of the player.
Connect the player to the PC to see whether the player is recognized.

Faulty USB port, try connecting the player to another USB port (or try another computer).

Is your computer Mac or Windows? eg Mac OS 10.7.2 had issues recognising media players that could be fixed by resetting PRAM.

Install Philips Songbird software and try Repair mode. Note this will delete files on the player.

My philips go gear mp3 player 8gb SA52XX is frozen (stuck at the part where it says go gear) nd due to that my pc ownt recognize it and nd obviously i cant listen ot music, iv tried everythiing frm...


Hi Ayesha. Resetting the device should be able to fix minor problem with the unit. Since resetting the device had no effect, the problem you might encountering there is more of firmware problem. Try to reinstall/upgrade the firmware of your device. Philips has software that is called SONGBIRD. I think you have that one in the cd when you purchased the program You may download the progra,m by clicking here. Below is the procedure on how to perform the uprgade:

Download and install the Phillips Songbird program. Launch the Phillips Songbird software.
Connect the Phillips GoGear MP3 player to your computer using the supplied USB cable. Click the icon of your GoGear MP3 player on the left side of the Songbird interface.

Click the "Tools" tab. Click the "Check for updated firmware" button. If a new update is available for your device, it will be downloaded and applied. Do not disconnect the GoGear MP3 player until the Songbird program tells you that the installation is complete.

Phillips GoGear Problem


Run the Philips Device Manager and select Update. If the device manager won't recognize the player, unplug the GoGear, hold in either the shuffle button or volume + and reconnect the GoGear to the computer until a Found New Hardware Wizard window pops up.

Device manager wont detect my gogear HDD1630/17 even though i recently updated the software and driver, also my device is frozen on "Please connect player to pc". I can't even get it back to the menu...


I was experiencing this similar problem, and from my research so were alot of other people, what finally worked for me was this:

  • Update all the software on your computer via Phillips site
  • Open the Philips Device Manager
  • With the device connected and the 'connected to pc' screen showing on the GoGear, do a 'soft reset' by holding the Power Off + Volume Up buttons for a few seconds
  • As soon as the device restarts itself, hold the Volume Down button, the computer should now recognize the GoGear
  • Follow the onscreen directions to Repair the device
  • Thank the intarwebs.

My player is stuck on the start


First - reset the player by using a paperclip, toothpick, etc and pressing it into the pinhole. Try doing this while the GoGear is "On" - but this may be difficult under the circumstances. Try connecting your GoGear to the computer after that, and see if Windows Media recognizes the player.

If that fails, conenct your GoGear to the computer, open Philips Device Manager (Start-->All Programs-->Philips), and click on the repair tab. Now, disconnect your GoGear from computer. Turn the GoGear off if it is not already. Press and hold the volume + key and connect the GoGear to the computer (while still pressing the volume +). A window will pop up saying a repair is being performed. now you can let go of the Volume + button. The repair will get your device workign normally again. WARNING: the repair process will delete any music/other media file from your GoGear.

If the software and drivers section doesn't help, then go to the FAQ for model SA6087 - there is a patch you can download under the section My GoGear is not recognized by PC - it works for most models of GoGear.

PC won't recognize can it be forced into disk mode, how?


Get the latest version of the software first (from the Philips website), then:
Make sure you back up all songs on the GoGear before attempting this solution.

1) Back up all files on the GoGear
2) Open up Philips Device Manager (Start --> All Programs --> Philips)
3) Click on the Repair Tab, and look for a msg that says connect the player while holding the volume + button
4) Disconnect the GoGear from the computer and turn the GoGear off - hold in the volume + button and continue to hold it as you reconnect the GoGear to the computer; after holding the volume + button for up to 20 or 30 seconds, a window will open up saying that your device is being repaired (now you can let go of the volume + button); after the repair is successfully complete, your GoGear will be good as new

Now you can do the firmware upgrade that will prevent this problem from occuring in the future. Open up Philips Device Manager and click the Update tab. This problem was caused because most GoGear's were designed for Windows XP with Media Player 10 (which is no longer the latest standard).
