Question about Hitachi (AU-160GBSATAHDHIT) 160 GB SATA Hard Drive

1 Answer

Hello I bought the above hard drive for my laptop. I have a slop to add another hard drive in my laptop and I have all the relevent adapters as its a dell laptop. After instaling the second hard drive I rebooted and I got a black screen and 'My Documents' was open. After trying to fix this I got frustrated and took out the hard drive and had to do a system restore.

I have been told that I have to make the second hard drive a slave for it to work? can you help?

Post what kind of laptop you have. Also post the model of the hard drive you bought, is it SATA, IDE, or?

I have western digital external hdd usb 2.0 and i have opened it now i want to connect it as internal hdd, its a sata drive inside when i opened the cover

The specific connection depends on the form factor the hard drive mechanism and the computer in which you want to install it. If it's a 3.5" drive and you want to put it in a laptop, forget it; it won't fit in there.

If you want to put a 3.5" drive in a desktop system, you need a SATA drive power connector from the power supply, a SATA data cable, and a SATA port on the motherboard or an expansion card. (note that you will probably not be able to boot from this drive if it is connected through an expansion card unless your computer's BIOS supports booting from a PCI device). It's also highly desirable to have an empty drive bay in which to to mount the unit.

If the hard drive has a 2.5" form factor (2.5" wide), and it is to go into a laptop, you will need the 2.5" hard drive adapter for your particular laptop (many manufacturers have a special cable or adapter for hard drives, although they should all fit the SATA interface. However, if your laptop is an older model designed for PATA IDE drives, the STAT drive will not be compatible.

To put a 2.5" SATA drive in a desktop computer, you need an adapter kit. This includes a 2.5" - 3.5" drive mounting bracket adapter and a cable adapter connector for 3.5" drive connections as described in the second paragraph above. Many computer parts merchants carry these.

Dear sir I have laptop..hp 2530p. 12" inch

You can choose any brand of replacement disk (Western Digital, Hitachi, Seagate, or Toshiba), provided it conforms to these specifications :
- form factor : 2''5
- interface : SATA
- size : at least 120 Gb, if your disc was nearly full, or less, depending on your storage needs.
Any computer shop can provide you with that kind of spare part.
They can also install the OS on the disk, with the drivers for your specific HP model.

I'd take it back right away, sounds like the hard drive is going. There are things you can do to try and fix it, but I'd take it right back and get the seller to fix it. It also could be that the drive has come loose but odds are the hard drive is going. So copy all data that's important to DVD and take it back and have them replace the hard drive.

I bought a Hitachi z5k320 hard drive trying to install it, and windows, but my computer won't recognize hard drive. how can i get it to recognize the new drive. can't do anything until that happens.

As long as you are sure the hard drive is connected properly with SATA cables to the motherboard and has power from the power supply unit, and that the drive is working, you can enter the BIOS on computer startup and modify the "boot device" look in "primary boot device" for a name matching that of your hard drive (probably "HITACHI .....) If it is there select it as the primary device and hopefully it will boot and ask you to install windows. If it is not there the drive may not be connected or it may need to be replaced. Hope this helps!

Hi There. I am looking for an Internal Hard Drive to suit a Dell Inspiron 1525 Laptop. Seagate Momentus 5400.3 160Gb ST9160821AS. Where can I get one or is there another Hard Drive that would be OK to use...

I suggest you check the specification of your Dell laptop to see the maximum size hard drive it can support. The maximum size hard disk you can install in the laptop depends upon the BIOS.
Any major brand of 2 1/2" hard drive will work with the Dell.

Hello Kevin Shaggy...

Let me see if I can help you out a bit...
Adding a 160gb to a 40gb does give you 200gb. BUT!!! you will loose a little bit on each one after formatting the harddrive. The new drive will wind up being about 157 or 159gb give or take a little.
ANY harddrive partition, whether it is a c:, d:, DO have to format EACH drive letter.
If you partition your 160gb harddrive into 2 parts, (2) 80gb drives, then they would get two drive letters and both of them get formatted.
IF the 40gb drive is C: then the new 160gb partitioned in half would be D: & E:.
CDROM Drive would be F: and so on....
Floppy Drives, CDrom Drives, DVD Drives, you do not have to format like a hard drive...

If you add a 1gb stick of memory to your existing 256mb stick of memory then you WOULD have 1gb + 256mb. If you remove the 256mb and just add 1gb, then you would just have 1gb.
