Garmin Nuvi 2 years old. consistently says i need to update maps. I have hooled it up to my computer. no clue how to update the maps

The maps on any garmin unit are only good for 1 year then new maps become available that are more up to date then you currently have in your unit. You can purchase the new maps at Garmin's web site. Here is the link:

www.garmin.com

I hope this helps you out if it does please give me a YES on the web page you just received my response on. Thank you

I have a Garmin Nuvi 265WT about a year old. Do I need up[dates and are these free, please?

If it's working alright and you're happy with the map there's no need to update it. New maps are released approximately every 3 months for Garmin satnavs but unless there are a lot of new roads there's no need to update that often. Details on how to update your satnav, if you want to, are at http://www.fixya.com/support/r5628920-update_garmin_satnav_maps

Garmin only supply free updates if a new map became available within 60 days of the first time your satnav accessed satellites. If you never checked to see if you were entitled to a free update follow the update procedure outlined at the above link. When you click on Get Update, if you are entitled to it free you'll be brought to the download page. If you're not entitled to it free you'll be brought to the page where you pay for it.

How do i update my garmin nuvi 250? it tells me it needs to be updated.

Garmin is telling you to update your Map, its wants you to buy a New Map which cost around 50 or 60 dollars.....your unit will work find for now unless you need the new map 2011 it just has the newer streets and highways. Anything over 2 years old should have a newer Map..

With the gps Off

plug in your gps to your computer using a USB cable (most cameras connect to your computer with the same usb cable)

your computer with detect new hardware ( usb ) a pop up box will come up, minimise it

next

go to www.MyGarmin.com the Garmin site will detect your pluged-in unit and let your update your Map

It will say to download WebUpDater utility to transfer your map to your gps

Make sure you register your unit with Garmin at that time

Nvidia 9500gt is displaying rainbow colored layered skies and smudgy stars at night skiesand I seem to have a hesitation now for a while. I ran scndsk chkdsk several virus tools and "error free" I've...

Tools - 1 Monitor /1 - 2 can's of "blow off"

- clearnail polish razor and blowdryer depending

trouble shoot----
Just for giggles try locating another (cheap) but confirmed working monitor. ive had this problem as well and i did exactly as yer doing just to discover it was the monitor and thinking it had to be a solftware issue:P

if its solfware then ill need more clarification of the proggys yer running now, what game, what patch, which version, what u were running before the problem occured.. its possible you may have swollowed a update that your program/server hasn't updated itself for yet. card's and solfware and be tricky bisness:))

I alwase keep a confirmed (CRT) old school working monitor in my closet just for theas problems:) you also mite try wiggling the cable leading to your vid card and see if the colors change as you are wiggling the plug, if thats the case, the problem is between yer plug and card, thus you should be able to determin which side sustaind the damage under visual inspection...check both male and female sides.

1) If yer still having issues and you've confirmed that its the card and not the monitor then remove the side wall to your computer by unscrewing the 2 phillup screws, depending on yer model thay mite be bulkey bolts. now at you own risk be sure to remove any stickers "carefully" as it voides yer warrenty if you snap it in half. to do this use a blow dryer to heat the sticker and a razor to lift the edge up and pull carfully..u dont wanna loose warrente over a routine maintance procedure...

2) take note of your video card, it lays horrizontal and thus it is prone to collecting dust - with the computer off... aim yer can of and blow off the card. if you see condensation then back the can off a little, no worries the computers off right :))

3) since we r already here take note of the block looking thing with the fan sitting on top, if you dont see it this then you probably have a shroud over yer heat sink, the shroud is usually big white and plastic, and it will have to be removed -

4) with that said, this is your heatsink and fan- under the fan is yer heat sink and it has little irrogation fins that are used to pass air through and thay are probably filled with dust and causing yer system to heat up and yer computer performance to slow down.
Aim yer can at the fins beneath the fan and blow out all debries in theas fins, try not to breath this stuff !!!

5) Now blow off all wires, fans, motherboard (the thing yer heatsink and fan is attached too) and memory AKA RAM (the vertical stick things that attach to the motherboard) blast away untill all is clean. if your feeling confident you can take the heatsink fan off via the 4 screws and directly blow off the heatsink, just dont apply too much pressure here.

6) Reassemble the shroud to yer fan (if equipped) throw on the side wall, and rember that sticker? yea were gonna get some clear nail poilish to reapply it, and now you dont have to wait 9 weeks for your computer to come back from a overworked tecnition to do what we just did in under a hour:)))

sorry for the long and crunchy speal, ill be recycling it for others in the future:)

NOTE: if you just baught this card and did not wear a groundstrap or discharge yourself of any static electircty aka touch your computer case before installation, you could have possibly damaged your card, its rare but it happens, or u may have just gotten a bunk card and that happens too...

Hope this helps

Error when downloading map updates

Try using a different website where you can download the maps for free. These should work. If they don't, you might need a software update from the same web site before getting more maps: www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=010-00401-20
