It looks like you remove the fabric softener dispenser from the top. There's a bolt holding the agitator in place beneath that. Unscrew the bolt and the agitator looks like it should lift out.

Some come of REAL hard from the splined shaft.

Someone had a bladder that put under the agitators then used one of the hoses to fill it and use the water pressure to push it up from underneath. But most will pull off.

First, you will need to remove the agitator, if it hasn't fallen off by itself. Than, you will need a pulley to remove the coupling from the spinning pole . I used one of those pulleys with three arms to remove it , Second, I lubricated the inside of the new coupling with a little oil, and sided it down on the spinning pole. It was a little hard to installed but, I used a hammer and tapped it in. Third, I also put some lubricant on the new coupling to help the agitator slide down a little easier on the new coupling.

P.S. Check inside agitator for old rubber of the old coupling and remove it. (only if it has fallen off the old coupling.)

Also, can review this DIY GE Washing Machine

Hope helped with this. Good luck.

How to remove agitator

That is a very old GE model. There may be a screw under the agitator cap which needs to be pried off. Even with the screw removed the agitator usually rusts or bonds to the transmission top. GE had a special pulling tool that was a metal ring that fit over the agitator with 3 set screws in it that you had to screw into the outer plastic of the agitator. A gear puller was then needed to pull the agitator off. Don't know if its worth it considering the age of the machine.

NEED TO REMOVE AN AGITATOR FROM A WASHING MACHINE

  • 1 First you must determine the brand of washing machine you have.

  • 2 To remove agitator on a whirlpool washer, remove top cap from agitator, Next you will find a translucent cap, remove this with your pliers. Then you will see a 3/8 inch nut, Back this nut out and you can then remove the agitator. Be Careful though, inside the agitator where the bolt has been removed is a white piece of plastic that holds the "dog ears". These dog ears are what lets the agitator move in one direction and locks when the transmission moves back in the other direction.

Maytag and Admiral washers are very similar to remove. General Electric, (GE) is different, To remove a GE agitator simply pull upwards very hard, GE agitators snap on. Be careful not to pop it into your mouth, that really hurts.

  • 3 Remove agitator, repair or replace and reset, GE just push on, you will be able to see the groves to line up the agitator to the hub. For whirlpool place bolt into dog ear guide, and set down on top of transmission post and tighten, be careful that dog ears, do not get out of alignment. That's it.

    Buy F150 parts.

    1 Answer

GE Washer WJSR2080V3WW will fill, spin and drain but not agitate.

The problem is the agitator coupler (about $ 7.00) simply pull straight up on the agitator - Give it a good tug. take the one bolt holding the coupler off - pull straight off. Replace the coupler and bolt (they are sold together). Line the agitator lines up with the coupler lines - when they line up it should go all the way down and snap back into place. and your done.

theres nothing under your agitator, first take cover off your agitator there should be a small bolt
holding it down, take that bolt out then grab agitator from bottom and pull up it should come off easy.
