Hi,

The type of hard drive you want is a 2.5 inch IDE (ATA) hard drive.

As for the HDD capacity I've worked on an Omnibook 6100 which had a 100GB hard drive so i expect it can possibly take up to 320GB but don't quote me on that.

Regards.

Yes, it runs so. I have 320 gb hdd in it, BIOS sees only 137 GB, but no problem at booting and XP runs smoothly with full capacity.

I had the same problem with my HP when l put vista on it and overcame that problem with using my XP driver. It worked for me no harm in trying your XP driver.

the HDD best to use is an SSD.
the HDD was a standard, 2.5? PATA drive for laptops

why would you want such a small drive, they dont make them now. (40 smallest?) new.

this PC is not supported by HP now, its too old a Pentium III no less.
why would 20gb be and upgrade.?? 10 now? omg , it is 10GB...then... and worse its PATA (IDE) harddrive.

its 17 years old now, most are in the recycle bin,
it came with windows 95 or 98, (hopeless that OS)
the laptop has zero value now, so is putting a new
$50 to 100 dollar drive,is wise,?
what if there are more problems, (endless when that old)

you can not use modern, SATA drive (
just 2.5" PATA (IDE) (pata is wide parallel interface with wide ribbon cable)
here are some

I own a HP Pavilion dv4-1433sb laptop with a 250 gig hard drive - I want to install a 500 gig drive, but do not know exactly which drive is plug compatible for install. How do I find out what to buy?

I'm not clearly understanding what your saying.

You want to install a 500gb HDD in your laptop correct?

Your looking for "sata HDD", these are laptop HDD. Usually on the box or on the HDD there is a sticker saying what type they are.

The second choice is how much gb you need, as you said 500.

Thrid choice is your "rpm", right now the two types are 5400 and 7200. This is how fast the drive works, 5400 is cheaper and 7200 is much more expensive and faster. So if your on a budget get the 5400 rpm. Like before it will say it on the box/sticker of the HDD.

Yes, your laptop can support the 7200, so its your choice on how much you are willing to spend.

Go on HP or youtube and you will find "how to" install a new HDD if you are not sure what you are doing.

Free up hard drive space

It's probably just misreporting the capability. The camera uses 2 folders that are approximately 16 gigs (magically all hard drives lose a few gigs don't ask me why). But in FAT32 partitions, only 4 gigs can be used at the most at one time, so it might be guessing there are just 2 4 gig capacity folders.

Hdd password locked

HDD passwords cannot be bypassed, even by the manufacturer of the drive and/or laptop. This is to ensure that secured data is in fact secure, no matter how hard someone tries.

I have heard of data recovery centers that are able to dismantle the HDD in a clean room and read data bit by bit, but that would start around $2000.
