My gateway laptop ne56r31u is stuck on a blue screen with please wait and a rotating thing on it. It has been like this for days and it won't reboot. It just comes back to this screen. I have tried...

If you press the power button until it shuts off, power it up and press F8 just before the boot sequence starts, select repair or safe mode from the menu.

My laptop is stuck on the screen before the page for the login screen, it is a blinking dash, with a black backdrop, it has been stuck for 2 days, what is wrong with it? And how can i fix it?

If the DeLL Post screen comes up it means that your laptop is okay. Pretty much your windows is corrupted and that's the reason why it's not starting up.

Things that you can do: (for windows vista & windows 7 only)

1. Restart the PC and immediately press F8. (You need to tap/press F8 repeatedly while starting up). You should get a screen that says "Advanced option menu."
2. Select Last known good configuration. If it does not work. restart the pc and press F8 again.
3. Select Repair your computer.
4. Run start up repair. If nothing happens. Run system restore. If it fails, the boot manager file of windows is corrupted.

Last option, you could try Dell PC Restore by pressing CTRL + F11 at the same time while the system is starting up. (You could start pressing CTRL + F11 when the DELL flash screen comes up).

NOTE: Running Dell PC Restore will erase your files/data & put your system back to factory settings.

Computer won't start

Check if the lock lights on top of the keyboard turns on or off when you press/toggle the capslock or the numlock key. If it does, you have an LCD or video card issue. Connect an external monitor to your laptop, if you have one. Turn the computer on. If both LCD and monitor dont have video, try pressing Fn F8 together once, twice or thrice. If you get video on the external monitor. the lcd screen may have loose connection or damaged. If no video on both, might be a bad video card.

when booting up press F8 and select safe mode ,then remove any software you installed just before this started to happen,
or use the restore function in system tools to restore back to an earlier time before the problem start.

good luck
