Question about Epson Stylus Photo RX500 Printer
Did it say for some time before, that certain parts are approaching end of their service life, or something to that effect?
If so, this might be the explanation:
The printer has a waste ink pad, which basically isa plastic container with felt in it. When the printer cleans the heads, either as commanded by you, or initially before printing, it spits outsome ink into this pad. The printer remembers an approximate count ofink that has gone into the pad in a "protection counter", and signalswhen the counter reaches a predefined limit.
Of course, this padhas a limited capacity. Theoretically, you should take your printer toa service workshop for waste pad replacement and resetting of thecounter - the printer is designed not to let the waste ink overflow andleak under the printer.
Of course the limit is set with a safetymargin, for a worst-case scenario, when you "pour" ink constantly andit has no time to dry.
If you want to becompletely inline with manufacturer's specifications, and especially ifthe printer is still under warranty, you should contact EPSON serviceto do the right thing.
If however you want to live on the edge, you can download a special utility to reset the protection counter, replacing the felt or cleaning it yourself, or - if you are even moreadventurous - without replacing the pad altogether, counting on thefact, that the waste ink dries out all the time and in practice the padshould accept twice as much as the producer assumed - but don't placeyour printer on that antique table or sofa afterwards...
If you want to give it a try, go to this webpage to download the software (TIP: DON'T be tempted to change any other settings, as you may render your printer useless):
