Packard Bell IGo 4000 series Versa E400

If you cannot see the speaker icon in the taskbar, click on Start > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices and tick place icon in the taskbar. That's if a driver has been installed for your sound device which is a creative sounblaster I think.

My computer is a Packard Bell IGo 4000 series Laptop, versa E400.The components are mainly factory assembled.I havereplaced the old hard drive and added a WD 30Gb hdd, 254 meg Corsair RAM and a DVD-wr as opposed to the factory fitted CD-wr/DVD combo.
My problem is that I cannot get the sound to work.I have downloaded the two drivers that are on the Packard Bell website, but neither of them work.I have installed Windows Xp home edition, and everything else works, except the sound.Now I am totally at a loss.Any help will be appreciated.

Go to HongKong NEC site and download fron that site. It worked for me yesterday.
