Question about Samsung SyncMaster 245BW Monitor

2 Answers

Monitor my monitor disply is shivering when it was runninig. I likewise have a "shivering" on mine. Horizontal lines running the full width of the screen about a dozen or more of them dancing up and down. Worse when the monitor's been on for quite a while. They don't show on a white screen (like this page I'm typing on now) but on any other colour are quite obvious. David

Unquiet,
This issue has do do with your horizontal output chip inside your monitor screen. The Horizontal hold isnt running at 60hz anymore that is why you can see lines, kinda like if you watch tv threw a old black and white video camara. I would suggest looking at getting a new monitor. There isnt alot you can do and the prices on most monitors now days are pretty reasonable.

Try getting anything that may have a magnetic field away from the LCD (speakers, phones, any electronic product), does the problem persist?

Try right clicking on your desktop and clicking on properties. Then, click on Settings -> Advanced -> Monitor tab. What does it say under the "screen refresh rate"? Try changing it to 75Hz or 70Hz if that's an option there.

If these don't work, then what biomed said is probably true. Although trying to uninstall\reinstall the monitor can never hurt.

The monitor comes with a three year warranty, so if it hasn't been three years you can call samsung (1-800-SAMSUNG) and have it repaired\replaced by them. You can also request service online at their website here. If it isn't under warranty anymore, you can find a repair center near you here.

Width problem

A width issue specially if this is short of width on the screen can be due to many reasons:1. It can be a low +B which means the SMPS power supply has a lower output due to low Switching or a low value on the main capacitor. Check this out, measure the +B on the mains end and also the secondary side which will confirm.2. If the secondary +B is correct the fault can be with the sync circuit IC or the horizontal coil or even a fault with the deflection coil. A proper measurement of the voltage in this section is important.3. Check for weak capacitors and DRY soldering on the horizontal section , line output section.

Screen horizondally pulled right side and screen rolled to left side

hi,
your monitors horizontal deflection side have some problem. you have to check the horizontal width cotrolling transistor mounded on the aluminum heatsik near the lot( line output transistor). also check the three mosfets which adjust the width for different resolutions. there are three such mosfets in the horizontal section.

fist of all replace the width controlling transistor in the heat sink. photo of mosfet and transistor is added for reference. not the exact number.

Very horizontal faint white lines running down the screen

hi,

check if the line appears in BIOS...dont worry when i say BIOS...not sure how to check...turn the system off...restart the system and keep tapping the F2 key...you would get a Blue screen...check if the lines appear on this screen...if it appears...it could either be b'cause the display driver has gone wrong or the system might have a physical damage.....if the lines does not occur on this screen....it is a manufacturing defect...please contact the manufacturer and report the issue for solution.......

Syncmaster 245B Monitor Shivering horizontal lines

Which type of video connector are you using? VGA or DVI?

If you are using VGA, the horizontal line could be due to interference, like from an electric motor (fan) near the video cable.

Other thing to try is to change the refresh rate. In Windows XP: Control panel --> Display Properties --> Settings tab --> Advanced button --> Monitor tab --> Screen refresh rate. The default ot 60Hz for LCD monitors. Bump it up to 75Hz. That could give a clue to the problem or maybe even fix it.

Have you checked your display adapter settings? Check the display settings in control panel. Make sure you are viewing the screen at a decent resolution. 800/600 or larger. Let me know what happens. Good Luck, Tim

Screen width unadjustable

Most likely width control circuit has developed a problem. Most common causes are a failed diode in the yoke return circuit or open capacitor near the flyback.
