Question about Hotpoint RGB745 Gas Kitchen Range

1 Answer

I have a Hotpoint oven that is more than 5 years old, and it burns natural gas. when i use the oven, it will burn, but it doesn't seem to burn all the gas while it is on. The gas company has checked the oven with the sniffer several times and the same thing applies they cannot find any leaks. Should i replace the unit or try to have it fixed. And do you have any ideas on what it could be.

Hello. Thanks for choosing Fixya! First of all you clearly did the right thing by having the gas company come by. Most likely the safety valve on your stove is defective and needs to be replaced. The safety valve is supposed to prevent accidental gas flow.
Here is the other issue. In home repairs have become so pricey once any thing is out of warranty that it is always a judgment call as to what to do. The new gas stoves are much more efficient than the models of 5 years ago, they are much better when it comes to baking with uniform results, etc. etc. etc. There fore, you could call a few appliance repair shops and get estimates, which would allow you to make a more educated decision about whether to repair or replace. Best regards, J.

Sometimes theres too much air in the line. A better connection from tank to stove may help, or your running low on propane. Try cleaning the burners with an old toothbrush removing built up sut. Your flame should burn blue, not yellow. Hope it helps!

I need to change the stove to operate on propane instead of natural gas.

You will need to conact a gas safe engineer who will change your gas jets from natural gas to LPG, then carry out various test to makesure your flueless appliance burns the gas safely and efficiently

The gas stove fire burns with black soot and is only 1 month old

Gas should not burn with soot, if it does it is dangerous as poisonus fumes will be produced as the air/fuel mix is wrong.
Call a qualified gas engineer to check out the installation and make it safe.

Hi Nancy
I have to ask you a couple of questions. Is the range set up for LP or Natural gas? Blow-tourch sounds are normally caused by to much air going into the burner. If you can look at the burner safely the flames should burn just out of the burner. If the flames are way off the burner the air adjustment is way off or you range is set for the wrong gas. Are your top burners OK?

Flames in oven are WAY too high! Having trouble lowering them.

Hi! melisrus
If you are using LP, even if you change the regulator settings from Natural Gas to LP Gas, the orifices all need to be changed. The Orifices should have come with the new unit, if not contact Hotpoint.

Make sure you order the instruruction manual and this is an Oven with Range Top, you will need orifices for all the burners on the range top.
