Hi,

The maximum memory that the laptop can support is 2GB.
There are 2 DIMM (memory) slots, each will support 1GB SODIMM laptop memory which runs at 533 MHz.

Regards.

Hi, wondering if I should upgrade my sony vio pcv-rg22z and what the max upgrade on memory etc is?

Hi. I hope this information helps you out.

The rz22g model has a max memory amout of 1 gb, using two 512 mb slots.

So you can get 2 512mb pc2700 memory modules for it, as this would max out the memory just make sure that the memory is of compatible type and build. You can't just go get cheap pc2700 ram and put it in, it might not work at all.

As far as other upgrades, it has an ide interface, so probably won't be able to find a drive bigger than 500gb, but that's a pretty big drive right there!

For processors, It appears that a 3.0 ghz pentium4 w/ht is the best you can get to fit, that's if you can afford one. They can be a pricy investment, and in the long run, you could almost buy a new computer that has dual or quad core performance for about the same price.

You can get any brand of pci video card, i recommend nvidia, as it has better performance than an ATI card. The newer the better as far as models go, just get the one with the most memory for what you can afford. Most good video cards can cost about $100, but if you go to tigerdirect, they have a Galaxy nvidia gtx430 on sale right now. It has a giabyte of ram on the video card, as well as having vga, dvi, and hdmi jacks, so you can hook it up to just about anything nowadays.

I hope this has helped make some decisions, and hope that it goes well for you.

How to Choose Memory (RAM) for Your Computer

You need memory for your computer. But how should you choose the right kind? Whether you're upgrading your computer or building a new one, learn now.

Step 1 If you bought your computer from a manufacturer, use a search engine or go to the manufacturer's site to find the specs on your model. The max RAM found in the specs is likely the max RAM the whole system supports. To find the largest size module the system supports, divide the max supported RAM by the number of slots. Also listed in the specs should be the max speed supported and DDR type (listed as DDR, DDR2, or DDR3). Alternatively, instead of max speed and DDR type, the specs may list something like PC# ####, where the "#" is some number. This is just a different way of representing speed and DDR type, and works equally well in finding the right RAM. If you know the largest supported module, max supported speed, and DDR type, skip to the Tips and Warnings section.

  • Step 2
If you're building a new computer, follow the above step, except search for motherboard model specs rather than computer model specs. If you don't know the model, look for it printed on the board.

  • Step 3
If you couldn't find your computer's specs, the info wasn't detailed enough, or you have a custom-built computer, go to http://www.gtopala.com/siw-download.html (also in the resources below) and download the freeware SIW. Install and run it. On the left side, under the "Hardware" section, select "Memory."

  • Step 4
The "Memory Summary" section on the right side shows the maximum amount of memory that can be installed in the system (listed as "Maximum Capacity"), and below that is the number of memory slots (listed as "Memory Slots"). The "Device Locator" sections tell whether or not memory is installed in that slot. To get the largest size module the motherboard supports, divide the "Maximum Capacity" by "Memory Slots." To get the speed and type, look under the "Device Locator" section, for the listing "Memory Type." Write down the PC#-#### part, where "#" is some number. Also for the listing "Speed," write down the value in parenthesis. For example, in 333 MHz (DDR2 667), write down only the (DDR2 667). You now have the largest supported module, RAM speed, and DDR type. You can use either the PC#-#### or the speed and type when searching for RAM.

  • Step 5
  • In Step 4, you found a supported RAM speed, but it may not be the fastest supported. Just to make sure, look to the left side in SIW. Under the "Hardware" section, select "Motherboard." Using this info, go to the manufacturer's site or do a web search, and see if you can find what maximum RAM speed the motherboard supports.

  • Step 6
If you're building a new computer and need to buy RAM, look up the specs on your motherboard to find out what kind of memory it supports.

  • Step 7
The RAM you buy should be no larger than the max supported module size, and should match the type and speed supported by the motherboard.

I'm looking to upgrade the RAM in my father-in-law's computer (Compaq Presario SR1500NX desktop). All the "see what ram you need" searches on various websites that sell memory indicate PC2700 is...

This is the memory specs for the SR1500.
Presario SR1500NX Memory Specifications Standard Memory 256 MB (removable) Maximum Memory 2 GB Memory Expansion 2 sockets Memory Comments PC2700 DDR SDRAM DIMMs. CPU Type 2.0GHz AMD Sempron 3000+ Model Comments 333MHz FSB, VIA KM400A Chipset.

The PC2700 refers to the RAM speed, so you can use PC3200 which is faster RAM than PC2700, the PC3200 RAM should be more expensive not cheaper unless this supplier has stock he needs to unload.
You will not get any speed performance with the PC3200 RAM because the motherboard cannot make use of this faster RAM.

yes you can, your netbook can have a max of 2gb ram and a max module size of 2gb.
So you have 1gb pc 5300(ddr667) installed, and you can buy 1 more 1gb module, laptops use sodim.

I have a Satellite 2405-S221 and I was wondering if the max memory i can install is 512K, is there a way to update the bios, or ANYTHING to increase that amount to at least 1 gig??

Toshiba Satellite 2405-S221 Laptop takes the PC2100 DDR SDRAM SODIMMs Memory Type, and comes installed with 256 MB (removable) of Memory. You can upgrade your Toshiba Satellite 2405-S221 Laptop to up to a maximum of 512 MB Memory, the system has 2 sockets to install Memory, already with 256 MB (removable) standard Memory installed.

In short.... yeah, 512k is the max.

Doesn't appear to a bios limitation. It is a hardware issue that is limiting the amount.
