Question about Amana Easy Reach AFD2535DE Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

1 Answer

Left door not closing properly because it doesn't align with latch in refrig. This happened before, & the tech added an additional plastic washer to lift the door so it better aligns with catch, but now the washer has worn down again. Defect? Are my juices in the door too heavy? Replace with another washer again?

See if the bottom hinge is bent or for loose screws. you can add another washer, but it's going to wear again.

Bosch sms63mo8au 12 door latch

Could be the latch that's attached to the top of the outer shell frame has become loose and is out of alignment, so its not able to close properly. Pull the unit out from under the countertop and have a look at whats happening with the latches when you try to close and lock the door. Adjust as need.

Door will not close without slamming

Possible causes - door switch, or door switch assembly out of adjustment; plastic latch guides on door switches worn; door hinge worn, causing door to be out of alignment. If it's the last one, the unit needs to be checked for microwave radiation.

Door latch wont latch and keep door shut

Sometimes these get stuck in the closed position...try pulling up on the inside door release before trying to close again...this re-aligns the catch to work properly...if needed then compare the door latch to the same door on the other side to adjust to open/close as needed...Hope this helps.

Dryer door won't stay shut latch won't catch

If this specific dryer has the door that opens forward (top to bottom as opposed to left to right, etc...) the common problem is that downward pressure on the door has bent it slightly. This happened on mine when one of my daughters would lean on the door while loading and/or unloading the dryer. If this is the case, then the door may pop open while running even though the latch looks good.

The best way to tell is just let the door rest naturally in the closed position. If it does not rest all the way closed, then the lower portion of the door & frame has been slightly bent as indicated above.

The door & frame has to be slightly bent/forced back out at the bottom. This can be accomplished with a large screwdriver or something similar such as a paint mixing paddle or basically anything that will fit between the bottom of the door (from the inside) and the dryer frame. Very slowly close the door with the paint paddle or large screw driver in place (again on the inside...not from the outside of the door). The goal is to just barely force the bottom of the door framing back out without warping it grossly.

Just take your time and be as gentle as possible & make small adjustments until the door will remain closed and latched.

The latch is really only required to keep the door secure while clothes are beating against the door interior. Proper alignment actually keeps the door closed.

Let me know if this helps.

Our French Door model after almost 2 yrs pops open the one door after closing the other, and it doesn't set off the door alarm because it doesn't pop it open far enough to trigger the alarm. This causes...

We solved this problem by replacing the plastic parts on the top & bottom of the door that 'latch' the door closed.

On the top of each door is a white plastic 'cam' that latches into a receiver at the center point of the refrigerator chamber. One of mine was broken.
Additionally, on the bottom edge of each door is a white plastic hook-shaped 'stopper' that provides spring tension. I replaced both of those and now all is happy.

Driver side door does not open from inside my 1999 chevy suburban. I can open from outside but not inside. I need step by step advice on how to render this problem.

Remedy is a new inside door latch. These used to be only available thru Chevy but today NAPA has them too - pricey but what can be done about that? Inside door liner pops off with several plastic rivets designed to release with moderate pressure, a screwdriver helps but can also lead to broken rivets which are almost sure to happen with the gentlest touch anyway. Sometimes there are screws to remove around the armrest area, check from below. There will be a sheet of plastic that needs to be pulled out of the way, do it any way that can be reversed when the time comes for that. Then you'll need to drill out the rivet that holds on the old door latch and drill out that hole in the door and the hole in the new latch to use a small bolt. You'll also need to buy a proper sized bolt. The door latch slides into position in the door proper after the rivet is removed to allow movement of the entire door latch.

Then undo the links. Operational link attachments are tricky but you first swivel them out away from the rod which allows the 90 degree bend in the rod to be removed from the door latch proper.

Step by step not applicable, it's a learn as you go experiance. Different jobs and models have their unique pitfalls, sorry no free pass around those. Do pay attention to you own level of expertise here and hire it done if you don't feel that you can do it after the above discription of the process.

Later on you will need to replace the door latch proper as they are next on the list to fail. This is a slightly more difficult job, but both can be accomplished with stamina and a cool temper. These are also available from NAPA. Inside door handles fail because they are made from pot metal (zinc) which is way too soft but CHEAP. Latches fail mainly due to mis-alignment of doors that hammer out the metal part of the latch. Use a 6 foot 2by4 or other stronger lever and blocks with 2 or three friends to bend the door up so that it closes in alignment with the body if you want to prevent buying a door latch on down the road. Driving with the door open hastens this condition so don't do it.

when the door is open it should look like the picture , i suggest your door is in the closed position and why it bounces off as you say , take a , lets say a screw driver stick it in where the little lever thats sticking up , push the door open button on the outside door handle , pry that lever forward , if successful try it , and lubricate it , hope my barbaric picture gets the point across .

DISH WASHER, STILL HAS A LEAK FROM THE DOOR.

Once the gasket is in place, check it for fit against the door frame. It should fit tightly with no cracks or bulges between the gasket and the frame. If necessary, tighten or loosen the retaining screws, or refit the gasket in the clips or the door channel. Then run the machine through a washing sequence and check for leaks.

If you spot a leak, and the gasket seems to be properly in place, try adjusting the door latch. The trick is to position the gasket against the frame of the door without flattening the gasket or squeezing it too flat when the door is latched properly. Adjust the latch or the gasket until it fits snugly against the door frame.

Servicing the Door Latch

The latch on a dishwasher door is opened and closed repeatedly, and this hard use can lead to mechanical problems. The latch may be loose, or it may have slipped out of position, throwing the alignment off and preventing the door from closing properly. When this happens, the latch does not engage properly, and the dishwasher will not start.

In many cases, you may be able to solve the problem by adjusting the position of the latch. Move the latch slightly by loosening the screws that hold it. Slide the latch with your fingers or pliers; the screw slots are made especially for this purpose. Close and open the door to see whether the latch is properly aligned. Tighten the screws to hold it in the correct position.

After repositioning the latch, check to see if it's working properly. Close and latch the door and turn the control knob to the ON position. If the dishwasher doesn't start, the latch is faulty. Replace it with a new latch, connecting it the same way the old one was connected. You may have to move the new latch back and forth several times before it works properly.

PLEASE mark this answer as a fixya! thanks
