Question about Garmin nuvi 1300 Car GPS Receiver

1 Answer

My garmin Nuvi 1390T traffic receiver reports a poor signal by turning the Traffic button grey. It stays grey until I turn the unit off and then on again. If i do this while stationary, the button comes back on as green. Any ideas?

Try reset by holding down finger on bottom right hand corner of screen before you power up, and go to www.garmin.com for software update

Garmin 265wt I want to know if my garmin have a free lifetime traffic incluse

Yes, the nuvi 265WT comes with a lifetime license for US traffic. That doesn't guarantee that you have a station in your area that broadcasts traffic information, and you must use the special power cable (which contains the antenna) for it to receive anything. You won't see anything on the screen unless/until the nuvi recognizes a traffic signal.

I have a Garmin nuvi 255w GPS. Recently, the cigarette lighter adapter cord began to fray, causing the unit to flip back and forth between running off the battery and drawing power from the cigarette...

You must buy the Special Traffic cord to receive the traffic.....it will have 2 lights to it to let you know that it is working..... just a regular cigarette lighter adapter plug will Not work, you need the Traffic Receiver cord.

You can get them on the Garmin site www.garmin.com

You need to subscribe to the Traffic , also you need to have the traffic cord to receive traffic reports. Other than that it should work.

You can go to the www.MyGarmin.com site and subscribe, be advised that if you had a trail version of the Traffic report in will end in 30 days from the registraion date of your garmin.

HOW DO I GET A TRAFFIC SUBSCRIPTION CODE FOR MY NUVI 1390T????????????????????????????

In Canada it should subscribe automatically without any need to put a code in. It has to be connected by the adapter through your car's lighter, a small icon of two cars will appear near the top left corner of your map, and with it you can change to the traffic map.
When the icon is green you are in the area covered by the free traffic service.

I bought a Garmin /Nuvi 265wt do I need to suscribe to receive traffic reports

Many Garmin nuvi GPS units that are traffic capable come with a complimentary 1 (or more) month trial of the service. After that period is over, a subscription must be obtained to continue to receive traffic reports. The GPS will continue to provide routing and mapping without a traffic subscription however. Only the real-time data will be missing without a subscription.

Pay close attention to which traffic service you get. The MSN traffic service will be going away in the next year or two. The FM traffic service appears to continue to grow. Phone a Garmin Customer Service Rep to discuss your traffic subscription options and possibly active your choice with them over the phone.

I have bought garmin1390t with lane assistance. I have driven in the cities with many lanes. However lane assist is not showing have I been sold the correct model, HOW CAN i TELL.

The 1390T does come with Lane Assist and should show in the top left of the screen. I am wondering if it only works on highways? I currently have a Nuvi 350 and have just purchased a 1350 for Christmas specifically because of Lane Assist.

Here are the specs on your model and you can contact Garmin from their website.

The ' T ' model gives a Traffic receiver included and traffic updates to the unit for your lifetime use.

Our garmin product, Nuvi 465 T is telling us to go to www.garmin.com/fmtraffic to get a subscription code, so that we can enter a unit ID to get a free subscription to FM traffic. Every time we go there,...

Yes, you do not have to enter a subscription code for this unit because it comes with a lifetime subscription. All you have to do is be sure you plug your adapter in first, and also be in an area where there are traffic broadcasts, when your unit powers up, you will see a small green traffic symbol in the upper left corner of the screen. this indicates that it is picking up the signal. If it turns gray, then you do not have a signal in that area. Again, be sure you are in an area that has traffic broadcasts, plug in adapter first, then you should be fine. Again, it is not necessary to enter a code. Good luck and have fun!

Garmin Nuvi 760

I have the same unit. It comes with a trial subscription and then there is one time fee. The traffic will ONLY work when it is plugged into a power source in the car.

Remember to turn off the unit before you disconnect the cable. Otherwise the GPS unit will stay on and drain the power.

Traffic reciever not working with Nuvi 650

I have the Nuvi 650 (for about a year now) and just bought the GTM-20 traffic receiver. This receiver came with the "free lifetime" traffic service. (Keep in mind that at first use, the receiver is "mated" to the Nuvi for "life". You can't move it to another GPS).

In any case, the GTM-20 manual says you only need to plug the two together and the two units will establish their connection automatically.

Mine didn't work.

I called Garmin and after a LOOONG hold time, finally got through to a tech rep. She advised that I connect my 650 to my PC and login to Garmin to check for upgrades. She was right. When Garmin offered this "free service for life", they had to issue a new software update so the Nuvi would accept it. She also advised I check the offered "optional" upgrades as well, and look for any that offered "traffic" in the title. There was one of those upgrades, also. (almost everything else was optional "voices" downloads).

I downloaded both the primary software update and the optional traffic update to the 650. It installed them automatically. She also advised "just to be sure" to do a hard reset on the 650. That involves turning the unit off. Then, while pressing a finger in the lower right corner of the screen, turn the unit back on. The unit will ask if you really want to risk losing personal data.. Say "yes", and the unit will do a clean reboot with the upgrades.

Reconnect the receiver and the 650. It may take awhile for the units to acquire the satellites, traffic signals, and set the internal key, but it did work. You may not see the "traffic icon" at the first map screen. If you go to the tools or setup screen, you should see the traffic icon at the lower right of the screen. Press that, and if you are in a coverage area, it will show traffic in the area.

If you have the first version of the GTM-20, you will have a set of LEDs on the power plug that show power and traffic signal info. If you have the new version of the GTM-20, there are no lights on the plug.

A couple of side notes. If you have a lot of "favorites" saved in your 650, you may lose those on the hard reset. To avoid that, put your 650 on the PC, go to your file explorer, and go to the "Nuvi" drive. Click on that, and find the the folder and file called "gpx". Copy that to a folder or desktop on your PC. After you do the nuvi reboot, reconnect the PC and copy the file back into the folder on the 650. That will restore your favorites.

Also, make sure you are in a covered area. If you are not, it won't find the signal and will not show you any traffic icon.

The first time after the upgrade and reboot, the Garmin rep said it could take anything from several minutes up to nearly an hour for it to establish the link (mine was about 10 minutes). After that, it will come right on.

A lot of information here, but the first thing is to get the latest software upgrade for the 650. I had upgraded mine about 4 months ago, and it was already two versions out of date. The newer version had the fix for traffic. I would start there.
