How do I clean a slightly yellowed bicycle saddle? Just bought a new 08 Specilized Roubaix. The saddle was slightly yellowed from sitting for two years, but when I tried to clean it, I think I made it worse. Any suggestions to get it to look new again?

How can I choose the right saddle for me?

Peter, the best saddle for you is the one that hurts the least! Firstly, you must get used to riding because NO saddle will be comfortable until you ' harden up'. Most bike shops will have loan saddles to try. These are usually a bright colour. Don't go on ANY advice from friends because all backsides are different! The one I eventually found ius actually sold as a female saddle, but no one knows! Well, they do now.

Are there different seats on bicycles for men and for women? Just got back to cycling to work and have a bike with what looks like a regular sadle, but it really hurts my ****. Its longish and thin, is it...

There are different men's and women's saddles. In general, men's pelvic structures are narrower than women's pelvic structures. (It has to do with birthing kids.) Thus, men's saddles are generally narrower than women's. A comfy saddle is the one that is right for your pelvis.

I particularly like Specialized saddles. They make saddles in a variety of widths for men and women. Along with their saddles, they also have a fitting system that uses a gel pad. You sit on the pad, then you measure the width of the depressions made by your pelvis. Then you buy the appropriate saddle.
I had a lot of trouble with pain and numbness prior to getting a Specialized saddle. When I did the measuring, I found I had a very narrow pelvic structure. (My kids have always said I was a tight a**, but I think we are talking about two different issues.)
Hope you find a saddle that fits you well.

What size should I get?

A bike is the right size when your child can:

•Sit on the saddle and rest the balls of both feet on the ground.
•Straddle the top bar with a comfortable clearance and with both feet flat on the ground.
•Reach the handlebars with a slight bend in the arms when sitting on the seat. If there are handbrakes, your child should be able to grasp them and apply enough pressure to stop the bike.
•ByK bikes have more knee room than other bikes, which helps to lengthen the life of the bike and make the bike handle in a more predictable way.
As your child grows, you can raise the seat post and handlebar stem according to the owners manual limits.

What is the best tilt for the saddle?

SMP saddles are tricky to see the amount of tilt you have. Try this:

Place a level surface like a clipboard across the saddle tip to rear. On top of that place a small level, one with a bubble is fine. The seat should be positioned so that it is level or slightly (1 degree) nose down. This is your starting position.

from this position you can determine front and back. You should be sitting on the saddle so when riding you don't feel like you are sliding forward or backward. The exact tilt is a personal preference. but more than 3 degrees up or down and it will be very difficult to stay in position. If you can't get the saddle comfortable, you should consider having your bike Professionally Fit.

I am 5-8" male with a 29" inseam. Is the adult

Different manufacturers measure the frames differently so you can't really go by stated frame sizes. The correct way to measure the size of bike to yourself is to put your leg across the bar and stand with both feet on the ground, keeping close to the saddle. There should be around 4 inches clearance between the bar of the bicycle and your ****. The saddle of the bike is at the right height when you have your feet on the pedals, and either of the pedals is fully down, next the ground, and you don't have your knee bent while sitting on the saddle. This makes it easier for cycling as if you can't straighten your legs while cycling long distances they get very tired quickly. This means that it's normal to have to tiptoe or let the bike over to one side when you're sitting on the saddle stationary.

I have today bought a elswick bike and the instruction manual doesn't show how to fix the saddle onto the bike only how to adjust it as the whole bike arrived in kit form, i now have a pile of nuts, bolts,...

One of these two links might help. To get an idea of which parts belong to the saddle have a look at another bicycle. The parts are all pretty much the same on generic ones.

I bought a new seat for my 1996 Fuji Sagres. The old saddle clamp is too narrow for the new seat rails. Where can I buy a different sized saddle clamp that will fit my bike?

take it to a bike shop and get a new seatpost. bike shops
have manuals that they can check to find a seat post that
fits the bike frame and has the proper size rails to fit your
new saddle.
this is a good time to upgrade the seatpost, you can get one
that is lighter and more adjustable that your old one.

How to adjust saddle postions

you can loosen the bolt under the saddle, and adjust it...

for me, the best saddle position for long distance is when it's facing downwards a little bit, so that you can move your legs freely.
