Question about Dell Latitude C640 Notebook
There is an enormous amount of software out there to reset windows passwords, even for vista now. Most of the good ones out there can be burned to a bootable CD so you can run the tool without having to be in windows to reset it (which would be a little difficult)
Normally, I would give the name of my favorite free software to help out, however, by my shop's experience, I have seen too many people with this question come in with laptops that wind up stolen. Most computer repair shops usually charge a high fee ($85 and up) because of this reason. I will list to you a commercial software I use personally with high regards called Winternals ERD Commander. A long time staple of IT pros, there isnt much left out in the open here.
Windows Vista does leave you with more options to nip this problem in the bud however. Open your Help and Support button and search "Create a password reset disk" which will guide you along adding information to a Flash Drive or CD that will allow you to change your password simply by putting them in at the login screen.
Hope this helps, and good luck.
