Question about Compaq Presario M2000 Notebook
Hello and happy new year.
I have been experiencing problems with my pc for the past couple of days while trying to convert movies using winavi converter or doing a spy search using spyboot. After about 5min of using either programe the computer shuts itself off. I have a laptop presario model number m2515tu series running windows xp prof with 1.7ghz processor 60gb internal hardrive plus 160gb external harddrive and have 1024mb or memory. I had installed bluetooth drivers and I did a recent virus scan which came up with two infection though one showed on the hi speed navigator which is what I use to connect to the internet.
Depending on how your PC is shutting down, this can suggest a couple of problems.
1.)If you are getting kicked out with a Blue Screen of death and a memory dump, pay attention to the code about 75% down on the screen, that STOP error can tell you what the OS freaked out about and decided it couldn't keep running. STOP errors are actually good, because they give you a chance to know what is wrong, PLUS you know that it is probably just Windows at fault.
2.)If you are just plain getting dropped to full power off, more than likely you are over-heating. You can narrow down this possibility by getting yourself a diagnostic tool like Eurosoft's PC-Check to run a full myriad of tests on your hardware, this may prove a non-OS dependent (Hardware or BIOS) issue. You can also go to http://users.bigpond.net.au/cpuburn/ to try the CPU Burn-In tool to see if you are just crashing while Windows crunches numbers.
The fix can be anywhere as simple as replacing a burnt fan or running an air duster through your vents, to a software fix like re-installing windows (or trying the switch to Linux !!). There is really only about 3/10 machines that come my way with these problems that have genuinely defective hardware issues, so the chances are on your side, good luck!
