Question about Freecom Portable II External DVD Drive

No response at all from laptop regarding my toughdrive 160GB

After 1yr of no problems my freecom toughdrive 160GB has disappeared regarding my acer laptop. No response at all. Power light is on and can hear drive spinning but no recognition at all. It is not recognised on other computers either, as in nothing at all - no message no nothing. Would appreciate any help. If nothing else can I get my files back?
Many thanks, Rob.

Your files are safe on the HDD, the trick to retrieve.

You should have backup at the end of your sessions

If you have the setup disc, reinsert and run!

Hi
Check all cable connections in firmly & correct way round, from motherboard & hard drive. Check in bios, make sure hard drive setting is set to Auto. Place you hand on the hard drive to feel vibration. Hard drive could bd faulty. Western Digital are renound for it.

Export saved emails from toughdrive, import to my laptop

A little more information. What email program are you using Outlook express? Outlook?

If you are using outlook express open it. go to File / Import / Messages.

select the type of program the emails are in when you saved them to the external harddrive.
click next select import mail from OE6 or whichever you had from above. and click ok.  then click browse. and find the drive the email was saved on. then click the folder you have the emails saved in. and click ok. ( it may be easier to save the email folder to your desktop of your computer and just browse to your desktop).

click next select your folder you want the emails to go to and finish the emails will be imported

What should i do when my freecom toughdrive does not recognize of any computer

click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager look through all of your devices if you see a yellow question mark?or exclamation mark ! or red x
right click to reinstall drivers or

if you can see your usb but its not working
ports(com&lpt)right click update driver

sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable

just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again,

check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red-white-green-black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems

if this fails to fix the problem
you might have to install a usb 2 or 3 card they are cheap and easy to install you can buy these on Ebay very cheap
hope this helps

Window 7 and Freecom Touchdrive

May be it does not have a compatible driver for the drive. Launch the Add/Hardware wizard and use it to search for a driver on the internet. If a driver is available windows will download and install it.These driver issues usually happen with new operating systems. Even Vista had these problems when it first came out.

Freecom external 160gb back up - laptop not recognising back-up drive. Light is on on the drive, but that's all. Help please.

All things considered, I would use a different usb cable to attach the device to your laptop and try updating chip set drivers. The north bridge controls usb hub as well as video.

EverestHome is a software I use to ID the north and south bridge chip sets, the cpu, board, bios etc.

If the external is not detected on other machines then it could be a problem with the external drive chips or connectors.

Freecom 160GB Hard drive not recognised

Drives do fail Nick. Is it powering up [power supply problem?] Plug it in and go to Start/Control Panel/Admin tools/computer management/storage/ removable storage and disk management. See if the disc is recognised there. If it is not, and if the disk is spinning Try putting it into the deep freeze overnight. Plugging in next morning and if it fires up get as much off as possible before it goes down again.
