    Hi

I changed Q511 but no difference. Than i checked output voltage at pin 5 of IC503 and there was no voltage, I changed IC503. When i start TV it was working normally. I off it and on it again it works fine. I attempted another time and it goes to in same situation as red light blinking two times. I checked IC503 and again there is no voltage. Looks like some component is damaging IC503. Anyways you can give me better solution. Appreciate your earliest response

    Thanks

  • sikandar841 Nov 15, 2009

As per datasheet of TDA8172 Pin 4 is ground. Anyways i checked already voltage of Pin 2 and Pin 4 and there is no voltage. While rest i have to check. Do you think i have to replace IC503 again?

  • sikandar841 Nov 15, 2009

    I checked R615 its showing 1.045 Ohms, i don't have this resistance

While i needs to check Q507 and Q509, kindly advise me location if you can

    THanks

  • sikandar841 Nov 15, 2009

I checked Q507 and Q509 looks working. Just for your information IC601(STRF6456) is getting extremely hot

  • sikandar841 Nov 15, 2009

    So what you suggest next

  • sikandar841 Nov 17, 2009

I replaced R615 and no difference. Q507 and Q509 both are showing low. While IC503 at pin 2 there is no 13 volts. IC601 pin 3 showing 315 volts

    Kindly advise the next action

  • sikandar841 Nov 19, 2009

I removed Q503 and TV is now on. Kindly advise what i have to do now?

    THanks

  • sikandar841 Nov 19, 2009

Q503 is protection transistor that gets error signal from Q604, Q509, Q507 and D526
All above parts need to check for any leakage that trigger Q503.
    Thanks.

D526 there is no part at PCB, its looks like not used in design. While i checked Q507, Q509, which is looks working. Q604 i needs to check. Do you think we are close to resolve the problem or it might open some more question?

    Kindly comment

  • sikandar841 Nov 20, 2009

I kept out Q503, TV is working and check voltage at base arround 10-13 v, while TV was on and there was no cable tv connected. While Q604 is OK

    Kindly guide me now

  • sikandar841 Nov 20, 2009

Can you guide me how to check Q507 and Q509. How i can check low and high. Do i have to keep my meter on DC range and connect - to GND and + to collector?

  • sikandar841 Nov 21, 2009

Sorry i can't understand your meaning of rejection of solution. Kindly clarify

  • sikandar841 Nov 21, 2009

THis i really don't have done. Kindly correct it, might be i done by mistaken. I just asked that to check High and low means i have to keep DC meter on DC volt range and connect - to GND of TV and + to collector

  • sikandar841 Nov 21, 2009

During a detail check i found JR503 near to Q509 which looks like 0 ohms chip is open. I removed from circuit and its open. Kindly guide me can i make a short with a shielded wire because i don't have 0 ohms chip right now

    Kindly assist

  • sikandar841 Nov 21, 2009

Sorry i mistaken actually i was testing D507 while JR503 is working fine. D507 is also good. I will check as per your last recommendations, will keep you updated

    Thanks

  • sikandar841 Nov 23, 2009

    Hi
Q509 and Q507 both showing low at collector. While i checked their base is also low

    Kindly advise

    Thanks

  • sikandar841 Nov 23, 2009

Please find below voltage i got
    Q503
    E 0
    B 0.7
    C 0

    Q507
    E 0
B varies from -1 to 11 but very dynamic reading
    C 0

    Q509
    E 0
    B 0
    C 1.52

Hope it will help you to guide me

  • sikandar841 Nov 23, 2009

Q509 is marked YR, Is it a general purpose NPN transistor? because i have to look for substitute. further you are suggesting that i have to remove Q503 permanently. Is it will not damage and might create a bigger problem after certain time?

  • sikandar841 Nov 24, 2009

Looks like i'm at bigger problem. I replaced Q509(marked YR) with 1B. I seen on internet its compatible and removed Q503. Unfortunately screen is on but no tuning and screen is coming with color in center only. Further i have powered the TV with controlled current control. TV was taking more than 3A and my device trip the power

    Kindly assist me

  • sikandar841 Nov 25, 2009

I can do it much before so you don't think so that its possible to make repair with your guidance. I believe there is short circuit as my multimeter probe touch some two connections. Might be this cause some problem when i was testing voltages at transistors

I will appreciate if you can guide me because i wants to do it at my own.

Hi Sikandar,
Let me know how many times red led blinks as there would be an interval of 3 seconds so count blinks from pause to pause.
Is it Sony AR25M61 model or any other?
Above info will help to diagnose problem.
Thanks.

    OK,
2 times blink shows following problems in TV..
    • +B over-current
    (OCP) or over-voltage (OVP)
    • Vertical deflection stopped
    • Horizontal deflection overdrive

Please check following parts to fix this problem..
    • H.OUT Q511 is shorted. (A board)
    • Q701, Q702, Q703 is shorted (C6 board)
    • -13V is not supplied. (A board)
    • IC 503 faulty (A board)

Let me know for further query.
    Thanks.

Service manual / schematics is technical document that can be purchased from nearest Sony service center or part store nearby.
Below is an image that shows boards location in TV that will help you yo identify boards and find out above said parts in related boards.
    Thanks.

Good, TV turned On and worked for little time.
Check +15 volt on pin-2 and -15 volt at pin-4 of IC503 (vertical out).
Q507 and Q509 are vertical protection/ vertical pulse detector, check its output that should be low.
Check R615 (1.0 ohm 2w) as this also can cause problem if it gets devalue.
    Hope above info will help.

  • Shahid Electronics
    Shahid Electronics Nov 15, 2009

In two times blink TV status, horizontal section is not working so there would be no volts at vertical out IC503 and this IC sounds OK because without power/ volts supply it wont work.
Check Resistor as said above and I would recommend to replace it with exact 1.0 ohm as mentioned above.

  • Shahid Electronics
    Shahid Electronics Nov 15, 2009

    I checked R615 its showing 1.045 Ohms, i don't have this resistance

While i needs to check Q507 and Q509, kindly advise me location if you can

    Kindly comment
    ================================================================

We already solved problem by removing Q503, just testing and checking why Q503 gets ON
You are right, D526 would not be installed in circuit board.
While Q503 is out of circuit, check its base input, it should be low.
    Thanks.

    ====================================================================

Please check Q507 and Q509 out put that should be low.
Q507 in PNP transistor and Q509 is NPN
Q507 base should be high to get its collector low and Q509 base should be low to get its collector low.
Also resolder surrounding chip resistors and chip capacitors.
Hope this will solve TV problem.

Alright, Hi and Low means either +5 or so volts and low means 0 volt.
Put multimeter in DC range, black wire to ground (GND) and red wire of meter will be used to test volts.
This is Q509 schematic image that might help you..

    and below is Q507 schematics..

    Thanks.

  • Shahid Electronics
    Shahid Electronics Nov 21, 2009

    Congrats,
Yes, its jumper and you can use any wire on both ends of that opened zero ohm resistor to make it again zero ohm.

    =============================================

    Its OK,
Parts that are involve in Q507 and Q509 are mentioned in schematics images. Both transistors output should be Low ( zero volt)
    Thanks.

  • Shahid Electronics
    Shahid Electronics Nov 23, 2009

    Hi
Q509 and Q507 both showing low at collector. While i checked their base is also low

    Kindly advise

    Thanks
    ========================================================================

Q507 base should be High to get its collector Low because it is PNP transistor.
Q509 base should be Low to get its collector Low
    because it is NPN transistor.
Well, if you get both transistors collectors Low then its OK, put back Q503 and check its collector should be High (5 volts or so).
    Thanks.

    Shahid Electronics Nov 23, 2009

Please find below voltage i got
    Q503
    E 0

    C 0

    Q507
    E 0
B varies from -1 to 11 but very dynamic reading
    C 0

    Q509
    E 0
    B 0
    C 1.52

Hope it will help you to guide me
    ===================================================================

Q503 should Not have .7 volts on base or it will turn On and TV will start blinking.
Q507 is fine, Collector is Low, good.
Replace Q509 as it could be leaky that is why collector gives 1.52 volts. It should be 0 volt.

You can remove Q503 and let it be, TV will work fine.

  • Shahid Electronics
    Shahid Electronics Nov 23, 2009

    bigger problem after certain time?

    ==================================================================

Yeah, all 3 transistors are general purpose. Well if you see the problem, TV has no serious problem, its just protection circuit that is causing problem.
Horizontal, vertical deflection is working fine, power supply is OK, TV is working good, just protection circuit is creating unnecessary command or activating itself on its own without any reason. I do not think removing Q503 will create problem in future.

    ========================================================================

I been providing you info about first TV problem since November 13, 2009 but now it is not possible to fix this TV remotely/ over internet.
Now it is qualified TV tech job to fix it. Accidental short circuit can cause many problems in TV that can not be diagnosed over internet. If you still want to repair it, get service manual from nearest Sony service center because without schematics, I would not advise to put meter prob some where in circuit board.
    Good bye.

When i turn on tv it blinks 7 times no raster and on sound you can hear the high voltage goes up to the picture tube and then stop

  • Seven blinks - High voltage shutdown. The high voltage has exceeded 33k and the unit goes immediately into safety shutdown. Check power supply regulation and horizontal circuits.
You have a power regulator fault and it shuts down to reduce the X radiation from the tube.
Check the 135Volt line!

check the high voltage with the screen control turned up high where there is no raster. suspect problem within the video circuit where there is no high voltage or defective picture tube.some time when the screen is black and the screen control advanced, you can see if the tv has video or vertical or horizontal problems on the screen.service the high voltage circuit if there is no raster or high voltage is seen.no raster can be caused by the no heater or filament in the CRT.---- a defective picture tube can cause many problems, such as, poor brightness ,missing colors, intermittent picture, poor focus,a single-colored raster, arching in the gun assembly, retrace lines in the picture, negative picture, chassis shutdown, noheater or filament lit and no raster to name a few.an open filament or heater can cause no picture or no raster symptom.a defective CRT can have an extremely bright screen.loose particles of the cathode element can lodge between the grids and cause an intermittent black and white picture. simply tap the ends of the CRT gun assembly and notice if the picture begins to flash off and on.---- with a leaky picture tube after turn on the raster dims and get extremely bright.a dim picture with no green in the raster can result from a bad green assembly. a heater-to-cathode short can cause a raster to change colour or a result in no raster at all.replace the picture tube if there is severe arching in the neck of CRT. excessive brightness with retrace lines and a vertical collapse to a thin line can be caused by a bad coil on the neck board of the picture tube.rejuvenate the picture tube when there is very bright green screen. check for the resistance change on the resistors of the CRT neck board for an excessively bright picture with retrace lines.excessive dust inside the CRT spark gaps within the picture tube socket can cause the very bright raster and the chassis shutdown.a defective video amp, luminance buffer,or reference transistor can cause a bright picture with retrace lines. -------- for getting any required parts to replace you can get it from www.radioshack.com or from www.partstore.com or from www.shopjimmy.com --------- thanks.please do rate the solution.thank you for using fixya.keep updated.
