U5470-900 switch stuck in off position

I just got my Hoover U5450-900 Windtunnel Supreme Bagged Upright. It was working just fine and then after three months I started having problems turning it off and on. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Any suggestions.

I had the same problem. For a good vacuum Hoover offers no solution or restitution for an obvious design flaw for one if its products. I will be cautious to buy a Hoover product in the future. I attempted many times to get a resolution to my problem, the same as yours in that the rod used to engage the on/off switch stops working most likely due to the poor quality of materials used in making it. I am thankful for the suggestion of altering the vacuum so that you can operate it manually and will do the same.

I had the same problem twice already. The first time it was under warranty and my local vac & sew shop fixed it for free. The second time was shortly after warranty expired, so I just bought the switch and replaced myself. Have only had it for 2 years, so we'll see if I have to replace the switch again in a year.

I had this problem and it was the push rod that was not properly engaging the switch. I moved the switch to the outside of the housing where it could be operated manually. Had to cut a couple of holes in the housing but it works just fine.

I would need to know how long ago you bought it. If it is new, you might have simply assembled wrong. If it's not new, there was probably just a mis-production in the switch and it has too much tension in it. Thus, causing the plastic rods that come from the button to the switch to not have enough force to change the switch from off to on. Your best bet is to just have the switch changed.

Central vacuum won't turn off when hose removed from wall socket

There is a switch somewhere close to where you plug in the hose. Check and see if the switch is stuck in the down position. If so, it will either need to be replaced or cleaned to allow the switch to raise to the off position.

Why won't it switch off?

Because the switch is broken and stuck in the "on" position. Until you fix it all you can do is plug it in and out for operation. If you are handy you can take the switch out, make the repair of the broken part, and reuse.

Handle will not go down - stuck in upright position

Make sure there is not any debris stuck in the valve pipe assembly which will keep the assembly from switching from tools to floor.

The vacuun don 't turn off

Please unplug the unit.
2. Check to make sure the button is not stuck in the on position. 3. If the switch is stuck, try to move the button in the off and on position 4. If the problem persists, you may have a defective button stuck in the on position 5. Please do not attempt to disassemble the unit as the risk of electricution is high.

The ceiling fan does not shut off wire colors: blue, black, gray, white

Hi,
If the fan will not shut off it is most likely not a wiring problem, but a problem with the switch not working properly...

the switch is stuck in the on position even though it may sound like it is working...

use an ohm meter to check the switch out...

The shut off switch is stuck to the on position

This sounds like you have an internal problem with the electrical switch. I would recommend you take it to a vacuum dealer who has experience with this model. This is a relatively simple reapir for a pro shop to handle.
