I have a Thinkpad T40 that's had this problem for around a year. I've completely disabled the Touchpad, so that's not the cause. I use only the TrackPoint "button" in the middle of the keyboard, and the cursor jumps when it's not being touched.

I have Avira anti-virus working actively (often too actively, since it updates twice a day or more!), and run anti-malware programs from time to time, so I don't think that's the answer either.

HELP?!?

1.) Generally this is the problem when the computer is infected with Virus/Spyware/Trojan. Scan your computer with Updated Antivirus and Anti Spyware. 2.) If you use any external USB mouse check whether the surface is good or not. If the surface where the mouse is kept is too smooth then also this happens. IF this is the case use Mouse Pad to remove the problem.

Hi,
I presume you have a touchpad under your keyboard.
Usually the hand position when you type is such, that it's very easy to involuntarily lighlty touch the touchpad with the base of your thumb, usually the right one, when you move the hand over the touchpad, mostly in the up-left direction.
This causes the cursor to move to some other place, usually up and to the left, resulting in the next characters you type being put in that place :)
Try to keep your hands a little bit more above the touchpad when you type. Also, many touchpad drivers have settings for ignoring light touches/drags, try looking into these settings in your pointing device properties.
As an aid, I would recommend a soft gel wrist support, which automatically elevates your palms above the keyboard.

Jumping Cursor

Are you using the touchpad or an external mouse?
Douse it jump around while typing or when you move the cursor?
If you are using the keyboard. try turning it over and tapping it LIGHTLY against your hand or something soft. There may be some dust or stuff between the keys.

While typing on my laptop, my cursor jumps to other places on the page, then types where the cursor has moved to . I don't use a mouse.

Hi,
I guess the 'other places of the pages' is mostly the beginning of the line? It usually happens when the key stroke is not proper while using combination keys. Or also it happens when if you dont release a key when you press the next in between your speedy typings.

Keyboard problem- cursor keeps jumping around when I'm typing

You may be inadvertently touching the touch pad with the side of your hand or fingers as you type OR the touch pad itself is bad and needs replacement.

Cursor jumps around

Does the cursor jump around when your hands are nowhere near the touchpad? The touchpads are heat and pressure sensitive. I personally have very warm (and sometimes sweaty) hands. I have this problem often when working on laptops. If I hover my hands over the pad, it causes the mouse to move. I've had to take a business card, put tape on one side of it, and use it as a flip-cover for the touchpad on most of my laptops. If the cursor moves around when you're nowhere near the laptop, then you may want to try disabling the pointing stick (if it has one). I've had several clients with laptops where the pointing stick mouse control go crazy and move and click on things.

The cursor moves by itself during typing. It jumps to a position and I find myself typing in the wrong place.

I have found this is usually the small button in the middle of the keyboard (mouse button) I have tried some software to remove this problem but it did not on my laptop I ended up carefully removing the key board and disconnecting the two wires that go to the button My cursors kept moving across the screen

Typing problem

the problem is where the mouse cursor is. When you begin to type have the mouse cursor as far down the page as possible the glide pad can pick up the slightest variant of pressure and move your text to the position where the mouse cursor is.
